I just voted in the Goodreads Choice Awards. I‘ve only read 3 of the books.

A Well-Trained Wife - I enjoyed this one. I read it as an ARC for St. Martin‘s Press.

The Spellshop - I read this one with the #whimsicalreadsbookclub and I enjoyed this one.

Of Jade And Dragons - I read this one with the #whimsicalreadsbookclub. This one was just okay. I don‘t feel like I want to read other books in the series.

Mehso-so

Freya, born with the blood of a protection goddess in her veins, is pulled into a fight for a kingship beyond her understanding. & her only ally is her new husband‘s very attractive & charming son.

This had a lot I liked. Fantastic scene setting, absolutely fascinating magic systems & interpretation of children of gods. However, I could not care less about this romance, which made everything else w/ these characters feel flat. So, YMMV.🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Schnoebs I dnfed it with like an hour left of the audiobook. I got so frustrated by the direction the author was taking the MFC. The impulsiveness made me stop enjoying it even though I understood what was happening. 2d

Here‘s the Goodreads Choice nominees for Romantasy. I filled it out but I double checked it and just realized that The Spellshop is on here and I have read it. I read it for the #whimsicalreadsbookclub so this should say that I‘ve read 1 out of 20 books. I didn‘t know that The Spellshop was on here. I guess I didn‘t see it before.

I‘m at the dentist office. I‘m done with my appointment and now, I‘m waiting on my mom to get finished with her appointment. I started one of my Kindle Unlimited books and now, I‘m listening to this book. I‘m still not liking this book very much but it‘s okay. It‘s something to listen to while I‘m sitting in the waiting room. I took an Uber to the dentist but I‘m going home with my mom after she‘s done.

I started the #whimsicalreadsbookclub book last night. I don‘t know if I like it or not. I probably won‘t have it finished before the discussion on Oct 30. My dog just passed away on Friday, October 25. I was feeling really good about my Oct TBR this month but life had other plans so I‘m starting fresh in November. I think maybe my Oct TBR was just setting me up for failure. I‘ll probably make my TBR smaller in Nov so I can read it.

Even though my dog just passed away, I still want to keep participating in #noplacelikeholmes and #whimsicalreadsbookclub because these books don‘t require any brain power. Right now, I feel like I only want to read books that don‘t require a lot of brain power so all of my nonfiction books from Netgalley will not be read until I‘m in a better headspace so basically, I just want to mood read.

DaveGreen7777 I‘m so sorry about your dog! 😔 4w
JessClark78 I‘m sorry for your loss. 💔 4w

Pickpick

I loved this book. It‘s so slow it took me a month to read—there‘s a thin thread propelling this book forward. But every time I read it, it felt like a hug or a warm blanket around me. I may have read it so slowly because I needed it to be very quiet and special me time. The main character is a librarian who flees a big city as revolutionaries burn the city and its great library. She saves many spell books and her talking plant and sails to the ⬇️

Texreader island where she was born. Desperately wanting to be alone except for Caz, the spider plant, she realizes she must interact with townspeople if she‘s going to survive (eat). And with that comes change. With an entrepreneurial heart (the desire to survive), she opens a jam shop, and a secret spell shop as well (she *did* steal the spell books) and with little actions, improves her own life and those around her. This may be my fave book of 2024. ⬇️ 4w

This is such a lovely book. The main character is trying to save a mermaid‘s baby so I stopped to color what I think the mother mermaid might look like after the magical storm that made the baby ill. I‘m not sure why it‘s taking me so long to read though. #whimsicalreadsbookclub #hauntedshelf #hexesandcrows @Catsandbooks @PuddleJumper @KateReadsYA

Catsandbooks It's a bit slow for awhile. Kinda like you're meandering through the world and story. But it does pick up! 1mo
Texreader @Catsandbooks Good to know. I just got to the “newcomer.” I hope she doesn‘t mess up the peaceful place. 1mo
