What a fabulous, cosy month so far. Lots of r & r trying to recover from flu. So many blanket nests/forts. I've been reading loads of fairytales, retellings and Christmassy books.❄️🎄🎁📚 🎡🧚‍♀️🫕🤧🥶❄️
Only a few more to go before I complete @PuddleJumper #WinterCosyCosyBingo board. Not sure about reading outside tho, it's -7 here!! Reading in the car counts right? 😉

Last review for now. If you don't mind an absolutely absurd amount of insta-love, this was a fun little story. Becca, widowed three years, has moved to a new town for a fresh start. She ends up adopting a dog, getting lost in a snowstorm, getting rescued by the local hunky veterinarian, and helping him deliver a baby llama. Absurd? Absolutely. Good, clean, Christmasy fun? Also absolutely. 😂

Clare-Dragonfly Well, that sounds so gosh-darn adorable I had to order it for my mom for Christmas. I added the second book in the series for free shipping so I hope it‘s adorable too 😂 1y

TheAromaofBooks @Clare-Dragonfly - I'm almost done with the third book, with two more to go. They're just super relaxing, very low-angst. (Almost too low-angst sometimes, like is just everything automatically perfect?? 😂) They are quite insta-lovey but sometimes I don't mind, especially when I'm reading cheesy Christmas romances! 1y

Mehso-so

I actually almost bailed on this one and kind of wish I had. Lauren was literally a bitch for no reason for about a third of this book. She was SO rude, self-absorbed, and obnoxious. Will is DOING YOU A FAVOR and you're treating him like trash because of something he said to you when he was stupid drunk ten years ago that he doesn't even remember??? Wow, you're right, that makes you the mature one who has definitely worked through your issues 🙄 ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Will is unfailingly polite, kind, and thoughtful, despite the fact that Lauren says mean stuff to him for no reason, purposefully ignores him, whines about literally everything, and starts the entire road trip by announcing she's figured out their itinerary despite the fact that HE is giving HER a ride to be nice, like sorry, you don't get to tell him where to go and when - it's actually HIS trip??? Ugh. Eventually she somewhat snaps ⬇ 1y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) out of it, but then literally as soon as she sees Will talking to a random chick, Lauren (despite having literally no idea what they're saying) immediately does the whole “he hasn't really changed! He's still a player!“ routine where she goes and sulks in her room and then goes back to being a spoiled baby for the entire next day despite the fact that Will DID NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG (btw they aren't dating! He's allowed to talk to other ⬇ (edited) 1y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) women even if you ARE dating!) and HE HAS NO IDEA WHY YOU ARE MAD. Super mature, Lauren. 🙄 One more thing really burned me, spoiler below. All in all, I kept thinking this one was getting better, but then Lauren would do something else to act like a petulant child that sent me right back to being ticked off at her. Will deserves much better! 1y

TheAromaofBooks Turns out the reason Lauren is mad at Will is because ten years ago when they were both in college, Will got totally trashed at a party and 100% sober Lauren gave him a ride home. She's always had a huge crush on him. He drunkenly kisses her and Lauren makes out with him for a while, commenting along the lines of “it was her fantasies come true“. The next day, Will doesn't remember it so Laurent is heartbroken. But I just kept seeing this ⬇ 1y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) scenario with the gender roles reversed. Imagine a totally sober Will making out with a super-drunk Lauren because “it was his wildest fantasy for years“. Ugh. I just thought it was weird and a little creepy and of course Lauren tells Will about it and makes HIM feel like the horrible guilty person when SHE was the one taking advantage of him! Gross, and genuinely an unacceptable double-standard. 1y
Andrew65 Well done on getting through it. 🎄🎄🎄 1y
peanutnine Amazing review! This is on my TBR but probably won't make it a priority after reading your thoughts lol 💖 1y
TheAromaofBooks @peanutnine - In fairness, this has over a 4* average on GR and a lot of positive reviews, so maybe I'm just a grouch 😂 1y

sblbooks @TheAromaofBooks you are definitely not a grouch. I just read this one, and I agree with everything you said! 9mo
TheAromaofBooks @sblbooks - haha thank you! I probably should have labeled this book a pan after all my ranting 😂 9mo

This is actually the sequel to the tagged book, but isn't in the system. I really liked the characters in this one and it was fun to see the couple/family from the first book again as well. However, the final drama was a little much for me; I get really annoyed when people leave a relationship “because it's the best thing for you“ even though they haven't actually talked with the person to find out what that person thinks the best thing is lol

If you like your Christmas romances a little bit boring, this one may be for you lol It wasn't a bad read, just slow in spots, especially since we spend most of the book getting the idea of what went down between the main characters in high school, yet the author still felt obligated to give us a “Christmas Past“ section to hash it out in detail. Still, the characters were likable, even if ultimately forgettable. Soft pick.

Ever since I discovered Sarah Morgan a few years back, I have looked forward to her new Christmas book every year. She writes family dynamics so well, and I especially appreciate that she always includes a POV of one of the older/married women in the story. A lot of authors would use a family set up like this (three siblings) to write a little series, but Morgan finds a HEA for all three of them in one book. It works, but does feel like some ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) aspects are a little rushed/glossed over. And it means I spent a lot more time with Alice, who drove me crazy, instead of with Lucy, who was my fave. As an aside, I'm not sure if it was the name Lucy, but a lot of this story gave me really strong While You Were Sleeping vibes, and I was totally here for it.

I'm still working my way through Morgan's Christmas backlist as well, so hoping to get to another of her books this month!!

Andrew65 I loved this one and really enjoy her books, which like you was in the last 2 - 3 years. Well done 🎄🎄🎄 1y
JamieArc I read my first Sarah Morgan book last winter and was surprised by how much I loved it (tagged). Look forward to another this winter. 1y
TheAromaofBooks @JamieArc - Yes!! I read that one last year as well. I just really like how her books focus on relationships beyond the romantic - parent/child, sisters, friends. They're still enjoyable and I know I'll get my happy ending, but they are a little more than 100% fluff and I like that, too. 1y
BookmarkTavern What a cute cover! 1y
JamieArc @TheAromaofBooks Yes, I remember thinking that it had more depth than I expected a holiday romance to have. Happy reading to you! 1y

Last review for now!! This one had the right ingredients but somehow didn't work for me. First off, look at the title! Look at the cover! Look at the characters' names! Nick's family owns a Christmas tree farm! They live in a town called Mistletoe! And yet! This book didn't feel Christmasy! It was so weird. Most of the story actually centers around drama with Nick's ex, Amber, who also happens to be good friends with Noel's best friend, Gabby. ⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) Gabby is getting married on Christmas Eve, and both Noel and Amber are bridesmaids, which means Noel has to see her ALL THE TIME and it felt like 95% of this book was just them being pissy at each other and it got SO old. Plus, both of them acted so immaturely. A food fight, seriously? How old are these women?? Amber is given ZERO redeeming qualities, which left me struggling to understand why she and sweet, adorable Gabby were friends ⬇ 1y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) especially when Amber is constantly going out of her way to tear Noel down. Noel herself... I'm just not a fan of characters (or real live people for that matter) who say things like, “I'm just a mean, snarky person, it's not my fault.“ Actually, it IS your fault. And if you want to be that person, fine, but that's your actual choice that you're making, so stop acting like you saying mean stuff to people you love isn't your fault. ⬇ 1y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) In the end, this wasn't a terrible book, but I was looking for some fluffy Christmas fun, and instead got way too much drama. I definitely wanted more time at the Christmas tree farm and way less time at the strip club, thank you. 😂 1y

Andrew65 Well done. I read a similar book, all set up to be Christmassy and just wasn‘t. 🎅🎅🎅 (edited) 1y

dabbe Now if it were a Nick and Nora book along THE THIN MAN line, I'd be all over it! 1y
TheAromaofBooks @Gissy - You may enjoy it a lot more than me. It has plenty of positive reviews!! Sometimes I'm just grumpy if a romance doesn't do what I want it to 😂 1y
TheAromaofBooks @dabbe - Yes!!! I love The Thin Man!!! 1y
