I'm late posting my answers but enjoyed listening to this one again! #JaneAustenThenAndNow @Crinoline_Laphroaig

1. This was my second time reading. It's probably still my least favorite Austen but I did enjoy it much more this time around. I still believe Fanny deserved better than Edmund.

(cont'd)⬇️

peanutnine 2. I don't know about favorite, but I appreciated Sir Thomas more. He really changes when he returns and seems to genuinely care for Fanny, even if he shows it poorly.
Least favorite is definitely Mrs. Norris, she's a manipulative shrew.
3. I weirdly love the scene when Mr. Rushworth is complaining to Fanny about his lines in the play. He's such a silly character who means well.
4. I don't know that I have one
⬇️
2d
peanutnine 5. I always imagined it to be social anxiety or something because she never seems to be actually ill
6. See above - I would listen to Mr Rushworth rehearsing. At least that is amusing
7. Mrs Norris, Maria Bertram/Rushworth, and Henry Crawford. Hopefully they'll annoy each other for eternity
⬇️
2d
peanutnine 8. My biggest takeaway this time was how I admire Fanny for her steadfastness and not swaying her opinion so easily. She has a stronger character than me. I feel like I might have succumbed to Mr Crawford's pursuit at the first sign of change 2d
Crinoline_Laphroaig It's never going to be my favorite but I do appreciate Fanny‘s quiet strength. 5h

Finished with the #littensloveromance crew. I started late but quickly caught up, the story was cute & I devoured it like candy. Definitely had some hang ups about the main characters but overall it was a fun summery read. Myrna, the old Hollywood movie star neighbor, was for sure the highlight. She knows how to knock some sense into those young people!
Also, I totally did not understand the title reference until the author's note at the end 😅

StayCurious Ah I didn‘t read the author‘s note I‘ll have to go back 21h
peanutnine @StayCurious it might have been an audiobook only thing. She was answering fan questions and talked about the title a little 21h

I blasted through this romance. Great autumn vibes. Brother's best friend and forced proximity, where he's secretly been pining after her for years. The ending was a little rushed but overall it was a fun, sexy read.
Apparently it's the second in a series so I'll definitely go back and read the others #serieslove2025

Any other NC littens planning on attending the first Belmont LitFest on Aug 30th?
I'm so pleasantly surprised to see a relatively small town with a newer indie bookstore put on what is looking to be a pretty big event with some big name authors. Mazey Eddings is the headliner, promoting her newest book Well Actually

DGRachel I‘m on the fence about it. It‘s going to be peoply 🫣 and end of August is likely to be either rainy or Deep South Hot. 🥵 But…Ali Hazelwood is supposed to be attending and I think a lot of the other authors are local/local-ish, which is really cool. 🤔 4w

The #CampLitsy25 selections for July hit it out of the park. Both Woodworking and Death of the Author were five star reads for me. Woodworking made just a little more of an impression on me, so it's my July pick, but DotA will most likely grab the bonus spot for the quarter

July #MonthlyNonfiction2025 reads @julieclair
It was interesting that both of these books discussed the covid pandemic and its affects on the main subject. Serendipitous timing

julieclair Interesting how the pandemic could influence two such completely different topics. But come to think of it, the pandemic probably influenced just about every topic imaginable. 1mo
peanutnine @julieclair so very true. I think I just haven't read much nonfiction that had been written after the pandemic and actually talked about it in such detail. Certainly interesting that I read these two back to back that did 1mo

I'm not sure which litten recommended this book but thank you! This was such a great retelling from Henry Tilney's perspective. He never struck me as a regular 'suitor' in the original and this book delves into that a bit. It was fun to witness him enjoying spending time with Catherine and teasing her, turning into a true fondness under his father's encouragement. I don't know if he would have easily found love otherwise ⬇️

peanutnine and it speaks to his character that he didn't give it up once his father no longer approved. I liked how some of the parts that Austen glosses over are more fleshed out here. The ending felt satisfying with more detail. I also loved the descriptions of his relationship with his sister. There is a deep love there. I read this with my bookclub this month. We had our meeting last night and the discussion was so fun! We all enjoyed the story. Lenna was a bit of an annoying character at times but I liked switching between her perspective and Mr Morley's. There were some twists that were well written and one we didn't see coming! It was interesting how popular seances were in the Victorian era and how they could take advantage of the grieving families

They end up sneaking around whenever they're together, which is a surprising amount considering Cassie is at college hours away lol. The most frustrating thing was the excuses they kept giving to themselves and each other that they weren't going to do anything anymore because "it's wrong" ↩️
