The Blue Fairy wasn‘t supposed to listen to wishes tonight, and especially not wishes from the sleepy little town of Pariva. But there came a twinge in her heart as she flew across the low-roofed houses and narrow cobbled roads, and her conscience begged her not to ignore it.

Grave Flowers | Autumn Krause

Wow! What a phenomenal YA fantasy!

First off, the blend of Hamlet, the Tudors, and deadly flowers were an amazing combination. It all worked together perfectly. It had a gothic feel with a touch of horror. I loved it!

Let‘s take a moment to talk about the grave flowers themselves. These killer flowers had a life of their own and were so fascinating.

Finished listening to Legendborn last night. This is the 1st book in the Legendborn Cycle series by Tracy Deonn.

Brilliant reimagination of the classic King Arthur legend through current college secret societies.

In the foothills of the Ibrian Mountains…

Cahe Vehswo was in the field repairing a wooden fence. It was less to keep the wolves out than to keep the stupid sheep in, where the only slightly smarter child-shepherds could watch them.

A dragon was dead.
A giant black and purple fire-breathing dragon from the very pits of hell itself was dead somewhere outside the castle. Thorns were falling from the battlements like rain, making curiously pleasant wooden sounds on the grounds of the bailey.

A high white moon cast its light on the city below as brightly as the sun was said to shine in northern countries. White mud-brick buildings gleamed like pebbles from a faraway beach.

The day of the birth of the queens who would come to be known as Mirabella, Arsinoe, and Katharine was still, unremarkable and without omens. There was no great wind to howl the arrival of an elemental queen.

This was a powerful YA fantasy!

First off, I loved that the story was inspired by the authors‘ grandparents and their romance during the Japanese occupation of Korea. Drawing on real life experiences gave the story a ton of emotional depth.

I also enjoyed the dual POVs. The story is told in alternating points of view of the two leads, Seung and Eunji.
