Thank You @debinhawaii for #5JoysFriday & for the tag 💖🌺💝.

1- Litsy!!! So glad we all have access to Litsy again 🥳📚💝💝💝!

2- Springtime has arrived!!!! 🪄🌱🌺🌻🌼🌸🌷🌹🐛🦋🐝🐦💝.

3- The 6th book in the Old Kingdom series has finally been added to my library 🪄📚💝 #theoldkingdomreviewedbyanncrystal.

4- The magic of Books 📚💝.

👇

AnnCrystal 5- Book Shopping! I have found some real gems over the years at big-box and grocery stores, yet it was wonderful to seek out and purchase books that are actually on my radar... deciding which book to select from my long list of TBR to-buy list was a bit of a task 😂...

Ch 13:
They waded across, Mogget clinging to Sam‘s shoulder and the Dog swimming in the middle. Unlike most dogs, Lirael noticed, her friend actually stuck her whole head underwater, ears and all. And whatever power fast-moving water had over the Dead and some Free Magic creatures clearly didn‘t apply to the Disreputable Dog.

humouress
“How come you like to swim but hate baths?” asked Lirael curiously as they reached dry ground and found a sandy patch between the rocks to set up a makeshift camp.
“Swimming is swimming and the smells stay the same,” said the Dog. “Baths involve soap.”

humouress Ch 16:
“I understand. It‘s just not that simple...” the Major began. Then he paused, and his red face went blotchy and pale at the temples. Lirael watched his brow furrow up as if a strange thought were trying to break free. Then it cleared. Carefully he put his hand into his pocket, then suddenly withdrew it and punched his newly brass-knuckled fist into the Bakelite exchange board,

its delicate internal mechanisms exploding with a rush of sparks and smoke.
“Damn it! It is that simple! I‘ll order the company to go. After all, the politicos can only shoot me for it later if we win. As for you, Private, if you mention a word of this to anyone, I‘ll feed you to the cat thing here. Understand?”
“Yum,” said Mogget.

humouress 2nd interlude:
Not that landing in the Old Kingdom would be easy. Touchstone looked at the fabric wing shivering above him and hoped that most of the plane was man-made. For if parts of it were not, they would fall apart too soon, the common fate of Ancelstierran devices and machinery once they were across the Wall.

humouress
“I am never flying again,” muttered Touchstone. Then he remembered Ellimere‘s message. If they did manage to land on the other side of the Wall and get to Barhedrin, then they would have to fly somewhere in a Paperwing, to engage in a battle with an unknown Enemy of unknown powers.
2w
humouress
Touchstone‘s face set in grim lines at that thought. He would welcome that battle. He and Sabriel had struggled too long against opponents manipulated from afar. Now whatever it was had come out in the open, and it would face the combined forces of the King, the Abhorsen and the Clayr.

Provided, of course, that the King and the Abhorsen managed to survive this flight.

I feel this in my soul

Balibee146 Ha ha, yes to this. I love Sabriel - very underrated series, especially the original 3 books ❤️ 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Balibee146, all the best people know it though! A genre classic. (And from an Australian author so perhaps there was never going to be any escaping from Garth Nix for me) 1mo

Went to see the Scottish play last night at the Botanic Gardens. Took my book because my friends are incapable of arriving on time.

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @ReadingOver50, I don‘t mind them being late AS much when I have a book to keep me company 😝 2mo

After reading this (taken from Garth Nix‘s website) I have no idea how I pronounce Sabriel… and it‘s freaking me out a little bit 🫣😬

Balibee146 I always think of Lirael as Lir -aye-elle and I'm not changing lol 😬 1mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Balibee146, I‘d never given the name pronunciation much thought but a friend (who is reading Sabriel and Garth Nix for the first time) questioned the pronunciation of Ancelstierre and it did genuinely cause me to spiral at the two ways of pronouncing Sabriel. Anyway, Garth would be absolutely fine with our chosen pronunciations! 1mo

Mehso-so

Has anyone else read this book??? The magic system is very interesting but also not the most in depth description on how it really works… I think the story is really original and a very cool premise. HOWEVER. It took me over a month to read this 300 page book. Which I can generally finish in a couple of days and now that I have finished it I still feel so meh about it…

Fantasyfan I just had this deliver today. I realized I have owned the entire rest of the series except this one book for years. 4mo
BookmarkTavern I love this whole series! 💖 And yeah, I don‘t remember the magic system ever really getting an in depth explanation. If you like audiobooks, I highly recommend the first three in this series. Tim Curry reads them. 💖 4mo
451Degrees @Fantasyfan oh man I hope it works better for you! I just felt like I never clicked with the book the whole time 😩 4mo

451Degrees @BookmarkTavern I might try them there… I feel like I should really love this book and potentially the rest of the series! Idk what has happened! 4mo
Fantasyfan @451Degrees I will go into it with low expectations, which I already have. I already knew the world building was not great from other reviews. I have read a lot of older epic fantasy and YA fantasy, so maybe I can enjoy it for its age and view it more as a classic than fantasy. 4mo
Clare-Dragonfly I love this book and the whole series! I don‘t mind when magic systems are not fully explained. I don‘t understand how my phone works, either. 4mo
451Degrees @Fantasyfan oh for sure! I didn‘t really mind the world building I thought that aspect was great! The more I think about it the more I am feeling like the characters were where it went a little more flat for me. I just hope you enjoy the read! 4mo
451Degrees @Clare-Dragonfly that‘s a good point!☺️ I feel like I was just wanting a little bit more to the characters to match the world building. I loved the unique magic system and setting even if I didn‘t really understand it well😅 4mo

Thank you @BookmarkTavern for creating this fun play-card.

The Old Kingdom Series by Garth Nix. Love his writing style 🪄✍️📚💝.

Also, while my interests would have one day led me to discover necromancy (I love reading about anything magical and ghostly)...it was in this series by Garth Nix that I first encountered this form of magic 🪄👻💝 in fantasy.

Thank you @debinhawaii for creating this fun play-card and thanks @Deblovestoread for tagging me.

1- Wonderful that U.S.A. was one of the countries involved in the Historic prisoner swap 😢🙏🥲.

2- Caught an episode of Captain Planet this week. Haven't seen this show since elementary age. The foundation of the show's storyline always stayed with me, yet the episode was like brand new. 💍🌎💍🌏💍🌍💍🎬💍. Hopefully I can catch more episodes🤞. 👇

AnnCrystal 3- Learned last night that CBS will premiere the new Matlock with Kathy Bates on Sunday, September. 22, 24. Been waiting for that show!

4- Saw a wild cat today, who watched me with these beautiful gem like eyes and a “trickster's“ glee. Wacky me recalled Mogget from the Old Kingdom books by Garth Nix.

5- Discovered a new song today and fell in love with the lyrics, “I believe in music“ sung by B.J. Thomas written by Mac Davis.

Deblovestoread Oh my, I haven‘t heard that song in so long nor thought about those two artist. Great memory! 8mo

1. Anne or Rosalind, the middle names of my grandmothers.

2. Love all of the names of the characters in this whole book series. Sabriel, Lirael, I just love that -el sound at the end of the names.
