A Murder in Time | Julie McElwain

I originally chose this because of the pretty cover (I mean look at it 😍) but enjoyed it so much more than I expected! The present day scenes felt a little obligatory but the dialogue and mystery were SO good. I didn't see that twist coming until it hit! Definitely Dr. Who meets CSI meets Downton Abbey. I'll be reading the next one for sure!

2 First Impressions 1 Chapter in...
1. This cover is gorgeous 😍
2. Good, freaky first chapter starting from the villain's POV!

I'm giving Ruby Red ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. The story has a fun juvenile feel to it, which is not horrible if that's what you are looking for. I think my daughter would enjoy it. I am enjoying the mystery of the whole story and will be reading the next book in the trilogy.

I am in awe of this book 🙌🏻 So well done. Is everything King writes this good? Its the first of his books I've tried and I need to know which one to try next!

Mdargusch Time travel. I did not know that. 6y
Kaye I haven‘t read very many of his , maybe half a dozen. I really liked this a lot. The time travel thing was a bit of a stretch but they needed to do that to get the character back into the 60s. I‘m not much of a time travel person myself but the book was great. 👍🏼 6y
Captivatedbybooks Ooo i have this glad to see it getting so many good reviews 6y

Scurvygirl This is one of his least “horror” themed books, but I as a Constant Reader think that most of his novels are just as good. 😹 6y
emilyhaldi @kaye I never would have picked this up on my own due to the time travel element... Not my thing either. But I saw so many good reviews I had to give it a try! Glad I did 😄 do you have a favorite King novel? 6y
emilyhaldi @Scurvygirl what's your fav??? 6y
Scurvygirl @emilyhaldi well It is my favorite of all time, but I have a soft spot for the Dark Tower series and a fantasy book that he wrote called Eyes of the Dragon. Misery is incredible as well. 6y
Reagan This is one of my favourites! The Shining, Misery, It, Skeleton Crew, and I love The Regulators and the partner novel Desperation. 6y
Reagan All of them, I recommend all of them 😬 6y
Scurvygirl @Reagan-reads 😹😹💚💚 6y
Librariana This was my very first King as well!! ? Hubby and I listened to it on a road trip and since a certain set of young characters were mentioned in this book, it was suggested I pick up "IT" after, which I did ? 6y
Reagan @Scurvygirl truth though! I love my Stephen King books. 6y
Librariana I should add that I read and finished IT and am now glad to pick up pretty much anything by him, but only if I know I have the time to dedicate to it. We (Hubby and I... again 😁) picked up Sleeping Beauties on a recent road trip, but weren't able to finish it. I'm excited to get back to it soon! 6y
cathysaid I really enjoyed 6y
Scurvygirl @Reagan-reads I know, I am the same way! I almost disowned my daughter the other night because she moved two totes full of my Stephen King books and I couldn‘t find them. 6y
WorldsOkayestStepMom I've only read a few King novels, but this one was the catalyst for me as well! I picked up Firestarter pretty soon after this one and loved it so much! 🔥🔥🔥 6y
BookBelle84 'IT' and Eyes of the Dragon are my favourites! 6y
Kaye The ones I remember reading are Salem‘s Lot, Bag of Bones, Dolores Claiborne ( audio is outstanding), Green Mile, 11-22-63, Carrie. The one you just finished was my favorite. 6y
DrSabrinaMoldenReads I almost this from the library today but think I need to purchase it. 6y
Reviewsbylola Unfortunately, no. I‘ve never found a King I‘ve liked even half as much. And most I‘ve hated. 😢 6y
Reviewsbylola Thanks for posting that list @kaye! Very interesting. The two King books I hated the most, The Shining and It, were nos. 1&2. 🤣🤣 But it gave me a good idea of where to go next with him. I think I‘ll try Misery and The Green Mile, plus I‘ve been interested in The Stand. 6y
Kaye @Reviewsbylola Green Mile was very good. Not a lot of blood and guts sorta stuff. I‘m wondering why his books of short stories weren‘t listed, or were they? The one called Different Seasons I think is the one with Shawshank Redemption in it. Misery..I‘m too creeped out by the tiny tidbit of the movie I HEARD. I shut my eyes. Remember the THUNK ? Gross. 🤢 6y
toofondofbooks The Stand is his best. I've read it many times and lots of King. It's amazing. 6y
mrozzz This is also where I started with King! It‘s a great one.... 6y
Reggie Salem‘s Lot is my favorite of his. 6y

I have always thought a great Doctor Who episode would be the Doctor going back and meeting Jane Austen. This book gave me a little bit of that. Austen and time travel, two of my favorite things. I loved the character of Jane in this book.

sprainedbrain That would be an excellent episode! 😍 Also, I had my tea out of a cup just like that this morning. 6y
CunningFox I'd love a Doctor Who episode with Jane Austen! 6y
sammisho @sprainedbrain @CunningFox Who do we write to make this happen??? 6y
