A Far Wilder Magic | Allison Saft
post image
Pickpick

This is an absorbing book, a wild tangle of love lost and found, faith and belief, the wrongs we do each other as people. Ostensibly about a magical hunt, this story is really about finding what you need, reaching for dreams beyond safety and survival, the strong roots of family and how they shape us. The characters weren‘t strictly likeable but were hugely sympathetic, and I rooted for them every step of the way.

I‘m not sure how to rate this book. It was one of the most complicated books I‘ve ever read. I learned way more about Sir Isaac Newton and Alchemy than I‘d care to. Although I normally love stories about ghosts and magic, I didn‘t love this one. I can‘t say that the book was bad, because it was obvious that amount of research the author put into it. It was just way too technical for me, footnotes and all.

The Devil You Know | K. J. Parker

This is my second K.J. Parker book and I just love the situations he puts his characters in. Unhinged. Devious. Hilarious. Very don‘t hate the player, hate the game (and Saloninus plays it oh so well)

Didn‘t realise this was the middle book when I started - don‘t think it matters hugely - there was some references back but I didn‘t feel like I was missing information that was relevant to this story.

The OG book that illustrates the #spiritualjourney and creates space for #personaltransformation / self-reflection all while it takes you through the main characters‘ #adventure 🙂‍↕️ Amazing read!
A book I will come back to again and again as it will forever live in my personal collection!! What is #alchemy if not a way of life? 👁️🧠🧿

Ooh, friends, I loved REBEL BLADE so muuuuuuch! You want this series RIGHT NOW if you‘ve been craving fantasy that perfectly blends the personal, the political, and the magical, with great characters and no easy outs for anyone. (Seriously, none of them has a template for their goals and everything is SO HARD and SO STRESSFUL and SO REAL for them.) I loved not only devouring this dramatic conclusion but also rereading the first two. New faves!

I meant to start REBEL BLADE a week or so ago, but I ran into some concentration issues and decided I didn‘t want to read anything so consequential until they were over. Now the time is here! I read the first third yesterday and I‘m excited to devour another chunk today. This series is so goooooood, y‘all! I‘m gonna miss the hell out of the three central characters when it‘s over, not to mention their world.

I intended to take just a teensy poke at SHADOW BARON before bed last night, then ended up devouring 17%. The onemorechapterness is real.

Now I‘m gonna dive into another big chunk while wee Geo and I wait for his mom to get home from her vacation. We‘re trying to enjoy this precious snuggle time instead of focusing on how basically everything in this picture is in greyscale. My kingdom for a colour ereader to showcase this vibrant cover.
