I have to steal from Popsugar on this one because their blurb sums it up perfectly: equal parts compelling and creepy. I did find the two perspectives a bit too similar, causing me to lose track of which events happened in which time period.

#aty2019 #bookspinbingo

my.books.in.squares I felt the same. Got a bit mixed up with what character experienced what which was why it was only a 4 star for me and not 5. 3y

I read this for the ATY challenge prompt #8 2 books relating to the same topic. I only rated it 3 stars. It took me forever to get through but I found once I got halfway I got more into it. #aty2019 #aroundtheyearin52books

#WeeklyForecast 48/19

It‘s all about finishing the 2019 challenges these last weeks of the year 😀

Just started Disappearing Earth, for the #ATY2019 prompt ‘A National Book Award finalist‘.
I wanted to read Missoula last week for #ReadingUSA2019 and #Booked2019, but haven‘t gotten to it yet. So that‘s another one for this week.

Cinfhen What prompt is Missoula for??? 4y
BarbaraBB @Cinfhen Political intrigue I hope, but am not sure yet. Fortunately I have some back-ups on my shelves 😉 4y
Suet624 I‘m disappointed disappearing earth didn‘t win the NBA. I really disliked Trust Exercise. 4y
BarbaraBB @Suet624 I haven‘t read Trust Exercise. I now feel like I need to (because of the NBA) but I‘ve read so many mixed reviews that I keep postponing! 4y

#WeeklyForecast 47/19

I‘m almost finished with The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne, our #NYRBBookclub choice, and loving it.

Next will be Bitter Orange For #ATY2019, where this week‘s prompt is ‘a book related to food‘.

If there‘s time left, I‘ll start Missoula for #ReadingUSA2019. Krakauer is such a good non-fiction writer.

In between, there‘s still Doctor Moreau. It‘s less than 200 pages but it takes forever to finish them.

Cinfhen Missoula was very good and Bitter Orange was very meh 😬😂 although Missoula was a dense read 4y
BarbaraBB I loved Swimming Lessons, that‘s why I bought this one, but I remember your so-so review indeed. I hope I‘ll like it! 4y
Kalalalatja I found Missoula so interesting! 4y
BarbaraBB @Kalalalatja I‘m really looking forward to that one. Krakauer is such a good writer. I was fascinated by his 4y

#WeeklyForecast 46/19

I started We are Called to Rise today and am absolutely LOVING it so far. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Cindy. Next will be Too Much Lip, which I am so happy was gifted to me by @CarolynM Her review was so good. I‘ll read this one for #ATY2019.
In between I‘ll continue reading the Wells, both in hardcopy and on #SerialRead.
Lovely week ahead, don‘t you think?!

emilyhaldi We are Called does sound really good!!! Adding to my tbr 🤗 4y
Cinfhen I‘m so glad you‘re loving it, barbara!!! It‘s really good ~ don‘t want to say too much so I look forward to reading next week‘s #BookReport 😁 4y

Kalalalatja It sounds like you are in for a great week! ☺️ and your birthday is this week, right? 4y
BarbaraBB @Kalalalatja Yes! Just like yours 😉😘 4y
Kalalalatja It can only be a great week, then 😉 4y
CarolynM Hope you enjoy Too Much Lip. Don't forget the glossary and you can ask me anything and I'll try to answer - I may need help from @MrsMalaprop 🙂 4y
MrsMalaprop @CarolynM 👏👏👏 So excited to see this being read widely. Have you read ? 4y
BarbaraBB @CarolynM @MrsMalaprop Thanks! I know how to find you 😘 4y
CarolynM @MrsMalaprop My book group has just chosen The Yield for our summer read. Looking forward to it. 4y
BarbaraBB @CarolynM do you know where I can find a glossary? I just started and it would come in handy 😀 4y
CarolynM @BarbaraBB I thought there was one in the back of the book but I've just checked and found it was in her earlier book Mullumbimby. My memory is getting worse and worse. I'm going to try to scan in that one and email it to you. (edited) 4y
BarbaraBB @CarolynM That would be so nice. Maybe there‘s one online as well. I‘ll have a look! 4y
CarolynM @BarbaraBB I've just emailed you a PDF of the Glossary from Mullumbimby from my westgarthwoman account. Hope you can access it! 4y
BarbaraBB @CarolynM perfect, I have received it and have already found some words that I was wondering about! 😘 4y

Another day, another bookstore read - started this one yesterday and couldn‘t put it down without finishing 🙈

This was a really good and creepy read and I can‘t wait to see the movie this weekend!

When picking books to fulfill wedding rhyme prompts, I only knew that I wanted to try and fill them in with all black authors. Now having read them, I noticed that they all deal with sharing knowledge and aspects of a particular culture. They‘re also split up down the middle by keeping aspects of culture and retellings in a new form.

I might not be able to plan this again with future challenges, but this tiny coincidence was nice. 😊

Here‘s what I‘m listening to and reading this week....all 3 are excellent!! What are you guys reading???

jillrhudy I‘ve got my eye on the Fowler for a library book club pick. What is your impression? 4y
Simona My current read is very slow pacing story, but very good 4y
LibrarianRyan My List is too long. Reading Small Spaces, and I Hate Fairyland book 2. Beyond Watchman, and so many picture books I need to get done. Good thing ILA is going on this week and I have extra desk time so i can get some of this hill conquered. 4y

Cinfhen I‘m only on chapter 7 @jillrhudy but so far, I think this book would be excellent for bookclub. I‘ll keep you posted!!! 4y
Cinfhen Your book sounds very dense @Simona 😘but I‘m glad you‘re trudging along 4y
Cinfhen Good luck making some progress this week @LibrarianRyan it‘s only Tuesday so you have a few days to knock them out 💪🏼❤️ 4y
BarbaraBB I don‘t know any of them! I am reading 4y
BarbaraBB @Simona I loved that book!! 4y
Cinfhen Your book sounds intriguing @BarbaraBB is it for your 50 States challenge??? 4y
CoffeeAndABook Those books all look interesting!! Do you have the house to yourself again? Your time to yourself again? Sorry, I I‘m not informed, I haven‘t been visiting Littenland for a few days. I‘m reading tagged book but it‘s slooooow. It won‘t end! Too good to bail but I‘m ready for it to just ... be over I guess 😂 Already have several books waiting!! 4y
Cinfhen Yup!!!!! I‘m houseguest free until Friday @CoffeeAndABook and I‘m SOOOOO HAPPY 😆 it was a long few weeks but I did enjoy spending time with my parents and other friends from overseas. BTW: I really liked the book you‘re reading!!! But she was a bit of a downer and I get why you‘re ready to say goodbye 😛 4y
TrishB This one - ok thriller so far! 4y
Cinfhen Sounds creepy @TrishB glad you found a book today 😜 4y
BarbaraBB No it‘s just an easy one for the #ATY2019 challenge. It had many good reviews here but so far I‘m still waiting for something to happen! 4y
CoffeeAndABook @Cinfhen Just finished The Cactus and have to admit I cried reading the last few chapters,it really is a very good book. Perhaps not the right book at this time but I‘m glad I read it😊Wow Friday‘s the next round of house guests! Bet you‘re drinking up every second of the precious time until then 😉 but I know having family over is just so worth it. And then you get to enjoy the bliss of having your space to yourself again!! 🙌🏻 (edited) 4y
Cinfhen @CoffeeAndABook I have weekend guests this Friday/ My parents return the following weekend and then I‘m guest free until November 22 🥳🥳🥳 it‘s a lot of work but the reward of quiet time is so worth it! Glad you enjoyed 4y

I‘ll start by saying I am a sucker for a good multi-generational story! The characters are very “unique” and it did take me some time to get into this one but I loved learning more about Zambian history and reading about these families and how they interconnect. The last section veered off in an unexpected direction but I still found it interesting and relevant to what is happening in the world. #aty2019

Ruthiella 😃 Yay! I have this sitting on my shelf! Hopefully I‘ll get to it this Fall. 5y
Rachel_nyc @Ruthiella I can‘t wait to hear your thoughts. It almost feels like 2 novels in one because it switches from a more traditional multi generational historical fiction to a near future tech novel but I enjoyed it! 5y
