Today‘s Prompt: INVOLVES MUSIC

WINDY CITY BLUES is a marvelous read and a treasure for music fans and historical fiction fans.  The multiple love stories also add to the book's interest - Historical Fiction - Music - Chick Lit - https://tinyurl.com/2wekfhmm

Pickpick

I took the #Hear/Here #Booked2021 prompt literally and listened to this fictionalized account of Chess Records and blues music in Chicago, my hometown. Famous musicians are woven into the story of Red Dupree and Leeba Groski as they face racism, discrimination and join in the civil rights movement. It was a fascinating look at the time. The narrator, Robin Miles, was excellent.

TW for racial slurs and profanity.

alisiakae Great review! And my father in law would probably love this book! He‘s written a few books about early R&B artists 3y
Cinfhen Yay!!! Sounds like you choose a GREAT listen 🎧 3y

At work, and made an absolute effort of will to turn off my screen for 15 minutes and eat my lunch with a quick read (and Litsy update), rather than working through as usual. Decompressing!
This is a lovely little book: reproductions of a trading card series of early 20th Century musicians. Crumb based his art on old photographs, so they have a naturalistic rather than cartoon style. The text had to fit on the back of a card, so necessarily brief.

Spent my birthday in Clarksdale, MS checking off a goal on my bucket list to see the legendary Crossroads at Hwy 49/61. We toured the Delta Blues Museum and stayed at The Shack Up Inn, a collection of old sharecropper cabins in the middle of cotton, soy, and sunflower fields.
Social distancing level achieved: expert!

Ms.Story You‘re in my old stomping grounds! I lived in Cleveland, MS 4y
