Pickpick

Lady Caroline Lamb was married to Lord Melbourne (before he was Melbourne and Queen Victoria‘s confidante) and was Lord Byron‘s mistress. But, beyond that, she was a writer, a poetess, a thinker, and and a “free spirit.”

Fraser writes an engaging look at Caroline and demonstrates how mental illness and familial history played significant roles in her life. Great, fast-read bio!

Pickpick

‘The famed nineteenth century poet and rake, Lord Byron, comes to life in a searing blend of fact and fiction..‘
Last book of October. This was a good, well written, gothic story. It‘s a dark tale featuring Lord Byron as a vampire and has appearances by John Polidori, and Percy and Mary Shelley. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#OnThisDay in 1788, George Gordon Byron was born. Ten years later, following the death of his uncle, he gained title and lordship. Lord Byron went on to become one of the most popular and influential English Romantic poets of the 1800s with poems like Childe Harold's Pilgrimage and Don Juan. #HistoryGetsLIT

There was an interesting idea here but there are some very disturbing scenes including an attempted sexual assault early on in the book. The MC is rather fortuitously the spitting image of Byron whilst the main female character, Persephone, is a Manic Dream Pixie Girl who made me want to eyeroll every time her character appeared.

It did keep me reading to find out what was happening but it wasn't as good as I had hoped it would be. 3⭐

Romance all the way!! In the beforetimes, romance was a rare genre read for me, but I‘ve been devouring contemporary romance during the pandemic. Finding the guarantee of a happily ever after to be oh so comforting!! #lockdownfaves @ShyBookOwl

JamieArc I was in a major reading slump so I embraced some romances this past month and was surprised at how much I loved them! I must have been reading the wrong ones before, because I was surprised at the world building and the dialogue. They were outside of what I expected and I really liked them. 4y
