Murray travels to Israel a number of times after the October 7th attack and tries to make sense of it all. He‘s very detailed in what he sees and doesn‘t mince words when he wants to make his opinion known. Murray is very clear about which side he supports in this conflict and he‘s very clear why. This is a very captivating even if sometimes difficult read. #Hanukkahchallenge #imthatjew

Book #22 of 2025: “How the Irish Saved Civilization” by Thomas Cahill

SO well-researched. This book focuses on how the rise of Christianity in Ireland ultimately saved Latin literature after the fall of Rome, and the significant cultural impact Irish missionaries had on Europe through the dark ages and into the Renaissance. Bonus: 1200 year old poem by an Irish monk about his cat, Pangur Ban. History buffs, it‘s definitely worth a read!

Nowadays most people think that the only two civilzations that made the West are the Romans and the Greek, but this non-fictional )audio)book proves them wrong. There have been Egyptians, Asyrians, Minoans and many more. Even though I already knew a lot of the information because I am fascinated by ancient civilisations in general, this book gives and extensive overview and a lot of interesting, sometimes funny facts and stories.

This takes a different perspective now that the war in Gaza appears to have come to an end. When I started it the war was still raging. And the ants-Israel pro-Hamas movement was in full swing as well. This book was a reminder of the horrors of October 7th and why we should support the only country in the Middle East that support western values.

Had to speed up Doug‘s narration to make it sound more normal lol. A harrowing read, but a very important one. Murray‘s insights into how modern events highlight the disturbing trends in western thought are enough to give you nightmares. Listen/read with care.

🌕🌕🌕🌕🌖 Definitely better than Ishmael, much more engaging dialogue and a better understanding of the characters and setting. I did feel the need to dock a small amount for personal preference because of the slump it left me on halfway through the book. I wasn't expecting that turn in the story, and it honestly didn't appeal to me at all, just made it seem boring.

Started this one a few days ago. I like it a lot more than Ishmael, that's for sure! This book so far is like Ishmael with better back-and-forth dialogue and characterization.
