When you thought you couldn‘t read another WW11 story, this detailed and intricate bio looks at the socio-political situation of the time through the lens of the privileged and connected. Despite Coco being an awful Nazi collaborator it‘s fascinating to track her artistic connections and be shown a gritty side of those that really stuck their necks out to help others. Beautifully researched book.

The Last Hope- series finale. #serieslove2024
I am sad this series ended, but the author did a wonderful job tying everything up- and I got to learn about Coco Chanel & her liaison with a German diplomat/spy-Churchill intervened so she was not charged as a collaborator.

Andrew65 I need to get back to this series, and sad to hear it‘s coming to an end. 10mo

Itis January 1944.Hitler has lost the war, which is evident to everyone but him.Maggie is asked to assassinate a high-level German scientist at a conference in Spain. What follows is a game of cat & mouse, involving double crosses & betrayals ,with Maggie totally unsure of who she can trust.Coco Chanel,as a Nazi collaborator, plays a pivotal role, which adds to the intrigue.Be sure to read the author‘s”Historical Notes.”So sad this is the series end.

I have loved this series, some installments more than others, and I was both happy and sad when I read that this was to be “The Last Hope”. I loved that Maggie was back in Europe and fighting against the Nazis like in older books. I don‘t feel that it wrapped up the story sufficiently for me so I do hope there will be a future book. It would be a disservice if not. Good installment but not the best. 🌟🌟🌟💫

kspenmoll In her “Historical Notes”, the author imagines that Maggie & friends celebrate V.E.Day at Buckingham Palace. So let‘s hope the author has at least another book in mind! 1y
candc320 @kspenmoll that would be great! I‘d love another installment! 1y

The finale (I think) of a series I‘ve been reading a while. Some books better than others. They got less interesting and more annoying as the series progressed. But I‘m happy to report that it ended on a high note. I think the author listened to some of the critiques of the other books. This one was less preachy and had a pretty solid story line. I don‘t know if it was sufficiently wrapped up but at least I was not irritated the entire book.

Great end to a great series. As a reader of historical mystery fiction, I am sad to see it end. Maggie is off to Spain for two reasons. First, Coco Chanel wants her to take a personal letter back to Churchill. Second, to find out if Germany has a bomb.

Coco Chanel has always fascinated me...not just her designs.. but as a woman, during WWII. This was a decent look at her that spans her entire life with photos and copies of letters she wrote. A very easy and interesting read. #bookspin @thearomaofbooks
