Didn‘t care for this one. It was a book club pick. The best thing about this book was the cover.

So much of what we do and who we are is because of society and societal norms. It was fun getting a different perspective of this and to be reminded to be who you want to be.
#ConvenienceStoreWoman by #SayakaMurata translated by Ginny Tapemori
Interesting novel (translated from Japanese). Murata's protagonist--more cog in the convenience store machine than human--provides an outsider's view of society's expectations. Her contrast with Shiraha and her dry, matter-of-fact narration intriguingly convey the spectrum of those who consider that we're only animals—close descendants of stone age humanity—and those who see us more as machines fulfilling our programming.
I just adore Keiko!
Keiko works part-time in a convenience store. She lives & loves her job. But the rest of the world would prefer her to be 'normal'. & she doesn't want to upset anyone.
This was a gorgeous, funny book about trying to fit in, but preferring to be happy. If you've ever given up a customer-service role for something 'with prospects', or fended off 'helpful' marriage suggestions from old friends, you might just identify with her.
Well, this is delightful!
Think I prefer the US cover though. **

** 11 hours later: I've changed my mind! Keiko's been working very hard to appear as a 'normal human'. I think she'd much prefer this cover!
