Promise Falls, where the twists, turns & secrets just keep on coming🤓 Already in queue for the next instalment!!
Although some bits were a little slow going, this debut was definitely a cut above. A woman and her two children hide after a home invasion...but was the whole thing just a figment of her imagination because of earlier trauma? Smart, well-written and definitely some pulse-pounding moments.
From the blurb this story sounded like my worst nightmare. First third, nope, can‘t do it. Mother is up in the night with young kids, husband not there, realises there‘s someone else in the house. No, not 300 pages of a house invasion with kids in the mix. Yet then the story changes, we go back into various parts of the narrators life, stories slowly evolve. A third in I was suddenly so invested I read the rest almost in one sitting.
This thriller, "Under Your Skin," truly gets under your skin, especially towards the end. The protagonist, who initially hides behind many masks, slowly reveals her true self, leading to a shocking revelation. ? It's a well-written and captivating read that I thoroughly enjoyed. ??
Easy to read and disturbing thriller about human trafficking. The bad guy is deplorable and I really wasn‘t sure how to predict the ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Well, this was yet another tough decision for which October read would be one of my #12BooksOf2024! But, I had to ultimately go with the scariest and the most tense (a very close runner-up was SOMEONE IN THE ATTIC which had me just checking on our own attic before taking my review picture!🤣) which was this listen. Not only did it scare me, but my gasping out loud while walking our dog passed along the scares to him! So this one even scared him!
Thirteen year old Ava Bonney is different.
While her friends play , Ava searches for roadkill.
Then, one night, Ava sneaks out to find a fox. She instead stumbles upon the body of Mickey Grant.
Detective Seth Delahayne has never seen a murder case like this one, as though the victim was set upon by a wild animal.
Nor has he met anyone like Ava , so determines and ... unusual.
When another boy goes missing , he has no idea that Ava will help him.
Happy New Year, dear Litsy friends. May the road ahead travel well for all of us.
I like this series, and I‘m happy to say I finished book # 2 two years after starting it. In one night. Books are like that though, eh? The mix of supernatural + police procedural + solid characters and writing really works. Definitely recommend. And yes, it‘s set at Christmas.
The suspense really grabbed me in this thriller. The tension was written quite well. I was actually scared. I'm never scared.
