Dörte Hansen‘s superpower is enumeration; her endless lists of events, characters and places present and past create novels like mosaics. Which, to my continuing surprise, I‘m really into – I binged Mittagsstunde within one sweet Easter weekend.
Off to Newfoundland for work for a couple of weeks. Packing the suitcase was the easy part. Deciding which books to bring however ….
Great to encounter this phrase, so reminiscent of my mother in her more Doric moments. #ackoning #endofterm #books #bookstagram #scottishphrases #scottishdialect #scottishphraseology #bookish #booksbooksbooks #hootsmon #dinnaefashyersel #booknerd #booklove #bookcommunity #booksofinstagram #dialect #jocko
Mittagsstunde took me weeks to read, which is never a good sign. I finally set down yesterday, determined to finally finish it. It‘s not bad, but her first novel Altes Land is much better written and you feel a lot more with the characters.
#Poetry is so hit and miss for me but I was glad to hear this #Shetland poet‘s rhythms of weaving English in with the #island #dialect, speaking of identity, wholeness, loss, and change.
Ordered through #blackwells amazing shipping service from the UK 🇬🇧
A young girl and her family escaping slavery through the Underground Railroad as seen through the eyes of the girl's doll. A beautiful look at a brutal subject. Beautiful illustrations. Highly recommended for kids learning about slavery and the Underground Railroad. Just an overall fantastic read.
You gotta love Stephen King‘s feel for local dialect. This novel is one long chapter of a woman‘s account of her life under interrogation for murder. While I‘d like a few section breaks to keep a steady pace, I am enjoying the natural flow of the story from start to finish. King probably wrote it over a lunch break. #theking #murder #dialect
