Pickpick

One of my favorite picture books to come out in the past few months. I love the simplicity of the stories, combined with big words like “lamenting”! I have mad love for this precious book. ❤️

I‘m halfway through this book and I‘m still NOT feeling it😩I‘m pretty sure I‘ll be leaving this book behind when I get on the plane Monday.....I‘m sorry, Em.....I wanted to LOVE Ignatius like a Dargusch 😢😢😢

No_One There is no shame in leaving a book you‘re not enjoying to pick up one you do enjoy! Life is too short. 🙂 6y
Mdargusch We were expecting this. So sorry the Dargusch girls seem to have a much different taste in books than you do. 😢 Time to move on. Please pick an old favorite of yours or one you‘ve always wanted to read for a readalong. 6y
minkyb At least you keep trying! 6y

Cinfhen Thanks @Mdargusch 😘😘I‘m gonna do a Stepford Wives buddy read in July... although I‘ve NEVER read that one and it could be a total dud #StepfordSummerParty so far @batsy @rohit-sawant & @Cathythoughts are joining me....I‘ll post info as it gets closer..... I REALLY wanted to LOVE this one @minkyb @No_One but you can‘t force yourself to love a book ☹️😬🙄 6y
NerdyRev I am reading it too and having a tough time with it. It is not drawing me in and the Ebonics scenes pull me out each time. 6y
Cinfhen I‘m glad I‘m not the only one @NerdyRev I get Ignatius is meant to be over the top ridiculous but I find the whole tone of the book a little abrupt/ off-putting/ insolent (?!? Word choice) I‘m glad the others are enjoying and there were definitely some very clever lines!!! 6y
DeborahSmall Aw! I loved it, everyone takes this differently. 💕 6y
Mdargusch I‘m in for #Stepfordsummerparty! 🙋🏼‍♀️. This book though just embodies the crazy, quirkiness of New Orleans. It is really apparent when Ignatius gets the letter from Myrna in New York. Her letter is so normal and makes the characters in NOLA just look crazier. Maybe living in NOLA for 4 years makes this book more relevant? 6y
Reviewsbylola It‘s so funny how polarizing this one is. People either love it or they don‘t. 😂😂 I‘m in for a Stepford buddy read for sure! 6y
Cinfhen I didn‘t know you lived in NOLA @Mdargusch with the family?!!! I know @emilyhaldi went to college there.....I‘m glad you are in for #StepfordSummerParty 💖💖💖and you too @Reviewsbylola Have either of you read it before??? (edited) 6y
Cinfhen Looks like plenty of #litsylove for Ignatius @DeborahSmall you‘re in good company 6y
Reviewsbylola I have not read it. I‘ve seen the movie. My mom, @annied and Emily are all Tulane alumni so they all lived in NOLA for a few years! 6y
Bklover Oooh- keep me in mind for #stepfordsummerparty! 6y
Cinfhen Will do @Bklover ❣️❣️❣️ 6y
ElishaLovesBooks I felt the same as you @Cinfhen Someone recommended it to me years ago and I wanted to like it so badly because they did! But I couldn‘t do it.😩 I don‘t remember a lot but I remember feeling really annoyed while I was reading. It was a rare DNF for me. Also, what is the #stepfordsummerparty 6y
Karkar I totally wish I would have bailed on this one. 6y
emilyhaldi Yes, my love of New Orleans definitely makes this book more enjoyable I think! @Reviewsbylola @Mdargusch Love those crazy, kooky people 💚💛💜 oh well, Cindy, maybe someday we can pick a book that we all like 😆 but glad you're not wasting your time if it's not enjoyable. So exciting that you leave on your big trip so soon!! 👏🏻 6y
Cinfhen I‘m loving this little club of misfits @Karkar @ElishaLovesBooks @readinginthedark ❤️ 6y
Cinfhen I‘m hoping to host a group read for Stepford Wives @ElishaLovesBooks but not until July!!!! Hence #StepfordSummerParty 🌞🌞🌞 6y
Cinfhen Thanks @emilyhaldi I thought we could be #bookmates4Ever but looks like #Dunces & #Doves ruined the plan 😆😉😘 6y
Cinfhen Tell Jamie I have mad respect for her... @emilyhaldi 6y
emilyhaldi Not to mention #GWTW!!!! I will let Jaimie know 😆 she knows you by name too lol. 6y
TheBookStacker I think I would hate the book if not for having lived in New Orleans. 6y
BookwormM I was not a lover of this one 6y
Pamwurtzler I‘m only a chapter into this so am still deciding. 6y
britt_brooke Well, bummer! But I can definitely understand that this one is a love/hate. 6y
kricheal @Cinfhen I'm glad I'm not the only one that didn't find this book funny. Ignatius is one of my personal disliked characters that I've come across. 6y
Cinfhen I‘m soooo glad to see the Ignatius haters coming forward🤗 @kricheal @BookwormM 🤭Let me know what you think @Pamwurtzler we usually have the same reading preferences unlike me & my pal @britt_brooke 💕💕so NOT surprised!!! 6y
Cinfhen I get that @TheBookStacker there is something for hometown nostalgia 6y
kricheal @Cinfhen 🤗🤗🤗👊👊👊👊 He's the worst!😂😂 6y
britt_brooke @Cinfhen 😆😘 Yeah, I hate to say it, but I had a strong feeling you weren‘t going to like this one. 6y
TrishB Not been drawn to this as yet! 6y
Cinfhen Maybe one day @TrishB ... you should have warned me before I spent $12.95 for the book @britt_brooke 😆😆😆 6y
ValerieAndBooks I was never really able to get into this one and that was about 25 years ago 🤷‍♀️ 6y
Cinfhen I would say try again @ValerieAndBooks but I think if you tried it once, that‘s enough!!! 6y
readinginthedark Ooh, I‘m in for Stepford Wives this summer! 🙋🏻‍♀️Also with this one, I read it before taking my first trip to NOLA, and I do think it‘s a pretty good reflection of the city. At least parts of it. And the narration on the audio version was pretty good, but I‘ll never reread it. 6y
batsy I've never been to the States or New Orleans and I'm loving it. But I can only read it in small doses. Underneath the humour is a sad story about outcasts, loners, the general sense of an alienated society. 6y
Dragon I tried reading it a few years ago, but I just couldn‘t get past the first couple of chapters. 6y
Cinfhen That‘s really true @batsy it does have a strong sense of alienation but I wasn‘t enjoying it @Dragon I stopped after chapter 7 6y
Cinfhen I‘ll keep u in the #stepfordSummerParty loop @readinginthedark 💕💕 6y
batsy @Dragon @Cinfhen I totally get it, I think the tone is either something that draws you in or puts you off 💙 6y
Dragon @batsy @Cinfhen my friend who recommended it to me said it was one of his favourite books of all time. I really wanted to like it but. 🤷‍♀️ Not my thing at all. 6y
Maria514626 The first time I tried to read it it was a no go. This time I‘m all in. 6y
