I‘m sorry, but this is starting to annoy me. As the person who spent my entire working day trying to explain to men why they had to have an exam BEFORE they could be scheduled for a vasectomy, let‘s make it clear. MOST are done in a doctor‘s office. The exam before is to see if you will need to have it done under general anaesthesia. Reasons general would be needed? Blood vessels and pain tolerance.

GingerAntics 2/5 BLOOD VESSELS - if a man has too many blood vessels where the incisions need to go, it is far safer to have the procedure under general anaesthesia because there are greater options to stop bleeding and prevent complications in those situations in a surgical setting. I can‘t tell you the number of men who refused to get a vasectomy after hearing this. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 (edited) 3d
GingerAntics 3/5 PAIN TOLERANCE - as part of the pre-vasectomy exam, the doctor has to check where the blood vessels are to see if the first (and main) reason for use of general anaesthesia is necessary. For MOST men, this is not physically uncomfortable. For some, it is. In this case, general anaesthesia is required to control pain during the procedure, as reducing pain DURING the procedure helps reduce pain AFTER the procedure. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 (edited) 3d
GingerAntics 4/5 Men will often hang up on you or say they need to check their schedule and will call back to schedule the procedure (and never call back) the second they hear about pain. Some men are done when they hear a medical professional they‘ve never met before will be examining their genitals for anything other than the procedure. It‘s easy. Yes. It‘s easier than a woman getting her tubes tied. Yes. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻 (edited) 3d

GingerAntics 5/5 HOWEVER, It‘s important not to disregard men‘s aversion to pain and having people look at their genitals. Having a stranger they have never met (and never want to meet) look at their wife‘s/girlfriend‘s/partner‘s genitals annually to get the pill is in no way part of the equation for them, nor would they care if it was. #GabrielleBlair #GabrielleStanleyBlair #EjaculateResponsibly #facts #urology #vasectomy (edited) 3d
GingerAntics Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk! 3d
marleed I‘ve really enjoyed your TED talk - very informative! 3d
GingerAntics @marleed thank you! I feel like I spent hours and hours having this exact conversation with one person at a time. I might as well put it out there for a larger audience. Maybe I should make a YouTube video or a TikTok. 🤣😂🤣 3d
