It is a trite but true Observation, that Examples work more forcibly on the Mind than Precepts: And if this be just in what is odious and blameable, it is more strongly so in what is amiable and praise-worthy.

rubyslippersreads I‘ve never read this, although it‘s mentioned in 2d
AnneCecilie I haven‘t read this either, since I keep seeing it referenced in classics I love. Looking forward to your thoughts. It‘s also mentioned in 2d
Eggs @rubyslippersreads @AnneCecilie I became inspired to read it bc my grands, ages 11 and 8, are reading and discussing it throughout the year in their home school curricula. Loved the allegorical style and the arduous journey from City of Destruction to Celestial City. Discovered that Bunyan wrote it while in prison in the 1600s for preaching Christianity. PP seems more relevant to me than the weekly gospels I heard growing up Catholic 22h

Short story by Ray Bradbury, a parody of Poe‘s “House of Usher“.

I‘ve finished reading Martian Chronicles for the second time this year, but this time I read “Usher II” separately. It turns out I didn‘t need to, I didn‘t know my eBook had an update, so I updated it and it now includes “April 2036 Usher II” and “May 2034 Wilderness”. ️⬇️

AnishaInkspill The update also removed “JUNE 2003 Way up in the Middle of the Air”. Luckily, I have both volumes of Ray Bradbury Stories which includes all 3 stories. 2d

reading this for the second time this year (and making up for all the years this has been on my TBR).

This isn't the opening lines of MC but it is the first line of one of my favourite stories from here. This made me laugh, and is a really nice contrast to the story about Ylla.
