Welcome to Carrow House. The dead are restless here. Remy is a tour guide for the notoriously haunted Carrow House. The old place is a haunt for the superstitious, but Remy hasn't seen any proof of the paranormal yet. Another good book by Darcy Coates. She may become another favorite of mine. The ghost/spirit in this book was especially malevolent and a lot more inventive. Totally creepy book and worth the read if you like this genre.

I enjoyed this haunting historical fiction ghost story set right after World War I in an asylum for shell-shocked soldiers. It really showed how PTSD was viewed back then. The spookiness was well integrated with the men's natural fears. I did think the ending was a bit unrealistic.

I‘m off to see this today with a group of library folk.

We settled on seeing a matinee in case it was very scary so that we‘d be able to debrief over drinks and dinner before going home…

Everyone knows about Ashburn House. They whisper its old owner went mad, and restless ghosts still walk the halls. They say it's the dwelling place of something cruel and sinister. But when Adrienne―desperate and in need of a place to stay―inherits the crumbling old mansion, she only sees it as a lifeline... until darkness falls.

This book was well written, flowed nicely and had a great plot. Very unusual ending for this kind of book. I enjoyed it!

Book 19 of 2024! I never read these as a kid because I was a big wimp, but this one was so good! It wasn‘t really all that scary, but it was a little sad. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Daniel is desperate for a fresh start. So when a mysterious figure slides a note under his door offering the position of groundskeeper at an ancient estate, he leaps at the chance, even though it seems too good to be true. Against his better judgment, he moves into the groundskeeper's cottage tucked away behind the old family crypt. But when a candle flickers to life in the abandoned tower window, Daniel realizes he isn't alone after all.

3 friends are renovating a house in an isolated town. The last owner mysteriously vanished. Meanwhile a psychiatrist who lost his son is working on a suicide case with links to a school break-in.

I enjoyed the writing style and it was interesting to see the two stories weave together BUT switching between the storylines took me away a bit between the more chilling ghost story scenes, and I wasn‘t satisfied with the end!

Love the title, love the cover, love the premise. Elements of this I really liked, but something was holding me back. I think sadly it suffered from being read straight after my last read which I loved and couldn‘t stop thinking about, yet at the same time it‘s a lovely, bittersweet story of love, yearning and the passage of time.

squirrelbrain I really liked this, which surprised me as it‘s not my usual fare. 1w
JillR @squirrelbrain I remember you liking this one. I didn‘t not like it, but at the same time didn‘t feel very engaged with it, and I can‘t put my finger on why, beyond it being a book hangover situation! 1w
