This is a terrific read about #historicalheroine Cynthia Ann Parker. I've done a lot of research on the Parkers having heard as a young girl that my Parker side of the family were related. As a lifelong genealogist I set out to prove it true or false. Turns out we are related to Quanah Parker not by blood but by marriage in a most convoluted way. So probably not what the family had expected. #feistyfeb

krismac I want to read this book but can't find it at the bookstores! 8y
Texreader @krismac My book is so old it's misshapen and the pages are yellow. I was just thinking I need a new copy. Guess that's going to be difficult. I hope you find it. It is excellent and impossible to put down 8y
ValerieAndBooks Still cool to have that genealogical link to them!! 8y

krismac @Texreader I just ordered it online! :) 8y
Laura317 @Texreader My mother was a Parker. How cool that you are related to that branch. 8y
Texreader @ValerieAndBooks I guess you are right. All the folks who told me those stories had passed by the time I solved the puzzle. Maybe a good thing though. It was an honor for them to think of that connection in the way they did. 8y
Texreader @Laura317 The Parker families have a lot of neat histories, related or not! I've loved learning my Parker history! Many many generations of Baptist preachers--came to an end with my grandpa who had no desire. But no wonder I love to talk so much. 8y
CrowCAH Yay for finding family! It's so interesting to learn about those who came before us. 8y
LeahBergen I read this book last year. It was great! 8y
Texreader @LeahBergen She's a good author isn't she? How'd you find the book? (See previous comments) 8y
LeahBergen I had bought it new like 10 years ago. Ha! 8y
Texreader @LeahBergen 😂 Your tbr stacks must be as old as mine! 8y
Texreader @CrowCAH I love genealogy for that reason. Our ancestors are more than just dates. I love their stories! 8y

"If I can't dance, I don't want to be part of your revolution." -Emma Goldman

Thank you @Suet624 for reminding me of this #historicalheroine.

Emma Goldman was a rabble-rouser. "I demand the independence of woman, her right to support herself; to live for herself; to love whomever she pleases, or as many as she pleases. I demand freedom for both sexes, freedom of action, freedom in love and freedom in motherhood." A political activist and a free thinker. Her courage and commitment is legendary. #historicalheroine

saresmoore 👏 8y
ReadingEnvy She comes up in so many books I read, most notably 8y
Suet624 @ReadingEnvy Did you ever see the movie Reds with Warren Beatty? She was a character in the movie, but unfortunately kind of a sad one near the end of the film after being deported to Russia. She was intense and spent much time in jail due to a variety of protests prior to being kicked out of the U.S. 8y
ReadingEnvy @Suet624 no but that would be so exciting!! 8y

Beryl Markham is my kind of #historicalheroine. She was the first licensed female horse trainer in Kenya and was one of the very first solo pilots to fly across the Atlantic, nonstop, against headwinds. #feistyfeb

Blueberry I read this along with Circling the Sun which told a whole different side of her. 8y

I actually just finished this audio book about a #historicalheroine! I have her t-shirt from Redbubble's Women of Science collection too. Love it! Who said you had to choose between beauty and brains? She's no slouch when it comes to ambition either. #feistyfeb @RealLifeReading

#FeistyFeb Day 18 - Historical Heroine

I'm absolutely fascinated by the Mary Queen of Scots figure, and this novelization of her life is one of my favorites!

BeckaroniAndCheese I loved this book and this author! Have you read her other novels? 8y
Melissa_J I loved that book. Great choice! 8y
BooksForYears @BeckaroniAndCheese I haven't...what others by her would you recommend? 8y

BeckaroniAndCheese @BooksForYears The Autobiography of King Henry VIII was my first and I was hooked. She's also written one about Cleopatra and one on Mary Magdalene, both of which were awesome. AND, there's a new one coming this spring! 8y
SaraFair I got this for $1 at our last library sale. Have been too intimidated by it's size to read it yet. Glad that you liked it, now I need to get on it! 8y
booksandsympathy I read the book Elizabeth and Mary: Cousins, Rivals, Queens by Jane Dunn and I was actually surprised at how much I empathized with Mary and kind of thought Elizabeth was a bitch. I realize they were both being manipulated, but it changed my views on both of them. 8y
BethFishReads I listened to this. I liked it 8y
BookThia I have a copy of this somewhere. I should dig it out and finally read it! 8y
Smangela Have you seen Reign? I've been watching on Netflix and it's obviously fictionalized but entertaining 😍 8y

LeahBergen I did a tour of her house once when I was in Denver. It's a beautiful house (and she had great bookshelves!) 8y
rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen It figures you would notice the bookshelves. 😂 8y
rubyslippersreads @EllieDottie Me too. I enjoyed Kathy Bates's portrayal in the James Cameron movie too. 8y
