pickWow wow wow. I absolutely understand why so many of my friends (especially @LBApple, who included this title in my birthday bag of books) couldn't believe I hadn't read this. It's SO up my alley: unlikeable, fatally flawed characters doing irrevocably terrible things under the pretense of pursuing knowledge.
And though the characters are detestable, the exquisite writing and classical allusions make their transgressions palatable.

Love this so far! Has anyone else read both this and Tam Lin by Pamela Dean? The professor in this book reminds me of Medeous... mysterious teacher of Ancient Greek with a strange and compelling coterie of students. He doesn't recruit the way Medeous does, though. #itsasecret
