The Pact: A Love Story | Jodi Picoult

Pickpick

Chris and Emily‘s lives are so intertwined from birth that it‘s no surprise that they become a couple in high school. Their future together seems predetermined until the night Emily dies by gun shot wound, tearing the lives of her loved ones apart. I liked this in that it was very readable, Picoult checks all the emotional boxes, and I love a dramatic courtroom scene but the more I think about it the more problematic it becomes. (1/2) #DoubleSpin

LeafingThroughLife There are definitely some problems with consent here. Not only does Emily often not give it…she often seems to surprised when Chris suddenly slides into her (?!?). The premise of the book leans heavily on Chris‘s love for Emily that demands he spare her pain except in their sexual relationship he is somehow totally unaware. Also for a book that‘s been printed many times over, def has a weird amount of copy editing failures. (2/2) 5d

Another great, emotional read from Picoult. I always like her ability to make you see two sides to an argument.

This novel is heartbreaking. I liked the characters, even Luke, the father of Edward and Cara. The story is told from each character‘s perspective. The love shared between them is strong. 4.5/5

Perfect Match | Jodi Picoult
Pickpick

Assistant District Attorney Nina Frost is really good at her job. She tries very hard to do the best she can to prosecute sexual predators. Then comes the day when her 5 yr old son is sexually abused. When the man, her priest, is brought into the court Nina acts in unexpectedly and shoots him at point blank range. This is all on tape. Nina has to pay for her sins. No one should be above the law. Was the outcome expected? 4⭐️

My friend and I decided to do a book exchange where we both select and wrap twelve books for the other. Then each month we get to open and read our predetermined blind date book. 😁

This was the one she gave me for January. I've read Picoult before, but it's been many years. Seems this particular title has had some very mixed reviews, so here's hoping I end up falling in with those on the positive side. 😊🤞

wanderinglynn What a fun book exchange! 9mo
monkeygirlsmama @wanderinglynn It really was/is! I mean there's the excitement of seeing what she selected for me, but it was also stupid fun figuring out what books to give her. 9mo
