My first adult reread of this well known fairy tale classic. I was surprised how short it was and how straightforward the storytelling was. Overall I was more than happy to dip into this book and read some childhood favorites.

pick#childrensclassicread2023 Even having read a Brothers Grim version before, I hadn‘t read quite the same version as I did this time which has to be one of the coolest things about rereading these old stories. I looked at a bit of the commentary & learned new things about the famine & cannibalism (major ick!) & also that the mother became the stepmother sometime between the 1st & 4th editions (so I guess societal expectations haven‘t changed much)
I‘m reading this version from Amazon. It was $0.99, but I got it free with my points! I think this version will be interesting. It has both the 1st & 7th Editions. ( Read the copyright section. It‘s interesting and gives the name of all 7 editions).
