pickI'm not really sure I was expecting, but I enjoyed this a lot. Gabrielle talks about her childhood and growing up as a black girl / black woman, she tells hilarious stories, and she also speaks about being a rape survivor, which was heartbreaking. A huge range of emotions here, well worth the listen.

• Mary Karr is the queen of sass. She reminds me of a meaner Scout Finch--pinging off her enemies from a chinaberry tree. I love reading about her childhood antics and trespasses. She did what she had to do in order to survive. I'm laughing with her and hurting for her in equal measure. I don't want to return this book to the library. •
