I appreciated the way this novel focused on the lives of the victims, rather than the murderer who is never called by name. Sometimes it was a bit difficult to keep track as the story jumped back and forth in time, but I also liked how the two storylines came together in the end. Now, I will have to do some nonfiction reading.

Book 156 of the year.

I read this with the #litsybookclub. It was very interesting and the art stolen was beautiful. I found myself going down a rabbit hole researching the art in this book.

This was an incredibly well told story of two Pakistani American teens and their families. Although the main story is when they‘re high school seniors, we learn a lot of family history for both. I felt many emotions while experiencing the lives of both Salahudin and Noor. They face some very difficult situations but come through with hope in the end.

Daisey 📷: We harvested wheat and started putting up straw this week, which means I‘ve been busy with very little reading or listening time. I finally managed to finish this book while running some farm errands this morning before we unloaded these loads of straw. #BooksOnTheFarm 3mo

Daisey @Crazeedi It definitely makes for some tiring days! 2mo
Daisey @Caryl I agree! 2mo
Daisey @JazzFeathers It was really good, but it was also definitely YA. Lots of tough issues for teenagers. 2mo

Reading 📖/ Listening 🎧 to this emotional YA book for #litsyBookClub
A close-up look at Pakistani- American teens , their families, & their struggles.

Daisey I‘ve got it checked out from the library, but I haven‘t had a chance to start it yet. 3mo
tpixie @Daisey it was really good. It‘s a 10 hour audio, and even though I had it at 1.75 and 2.0 speed somehow it still took me eight hours?! Per Libby. But I started it Sunday and got done with it this morning 3mo
Daisey @tpixie I listened to half of it today, and I‘m invested in these characters. 3mo
tpixie @Daisey you‘ve been busy listening & working at the family farm!! It‘s a great cast of characters! 3mo

This was another light romance listen. I was quite amused through the first half and unsurprised by the difficulty caused by lack of communication later. Of course, it all works out in the end.

Sharpeipup I thought that was an interesting twist 4mo
Daisey @Sharpeipup I agree, the reason for it all was an interesting twist. 4mo

140,000 Chinese men formed the French & British Chinese Labor Corps during WWI. The British headquarters were in Noyelles-Sur-Mer, France because it was by a railroad line as well as near a forest, which was an important source of timber. During & after the war, these men repaired railway lines, tanks, cleaned up battlefields, dead bodies, and the rubble from devastated towns. #NeverForget #LitsyBookClub

This was a great listen that describes the experiences of the first six American women to be astronauts - Sally Ride, Judy Resnik, Anna Fisher, Kathy Sullivan, Shannon Lucid, and Rhea Seddon.

Great storytelling by Janie Chang. I didn‘t know the Allies during WWI used Chinese men as labor in Europe to quickly rebuild trains, cannons, tanks, railways destroyed by the Germans.

Suet624 I didn‘t know that either! 5mo
tpixie @Suet624 the Chinese were paid, but due to language barriers, weren‘t treated well. It‘s the background of this story. I‘m looking forward to reading her book she wrote with Kate Quinn. (edited) 5mo
