I want to go to Alaska! Not a cruise, no, I want to go into the interior. I have a friend, @Betty knows her too, that lives in North Pole, Alaska. I am obsessed with books set in Alaska. I have North Pole as one of my locations in Weather Bug, just so I can see what's happening there. This time of year they have very short days, sunrise is at 10:46, sunset at 3:07. That's a little over 4 hours. Here's what it is right now. #ReadJanuary #lovecold
Notafraidofwords I don't drink alcohol because I have gastritis but if I lived there, I would drink every day just to get through it. I hate the cold. 8y
underthebelljar I'm fascinated by Alaska as well. I would love to go there some day. 8y
RealLifeReading Alaska is also a place I would love to visit! (edited) 8y

CouronneDhiver Go for it... what an adventure! 8y
tricours That's about as far north as where my mother is from in Sweden. I've always liked the north, but I never get to go there anymore 😔 8y
Cortg My hubby goes to Alaska quite a bit for work. He loves it any time of year and he's often in what I would consider the middle of nowhere. Me, I'd prefer Hawaii! 8y
Suzze @Cortg Hawaii's constant nice temps must be nice. @DebinHawaii will tell us. But I'd hate not having cold at all. 8y
DebinHawaii @Suzze @Cortg If I tell you it got to 59-60 degrees last night and I was cold would you hit me? 😆 This time of year is nice but summer during no trade winds times, the humidity gets a bit much. Still I cannot complain too much. 8y
Suzze @DebinHawaii 60 is Swimming weather! 😁 8y
Gayan I went to Homer, Alaska in July and it was the best trip. Alaska is fabulous. 8y
Betty @Suzze when I was there during the summer, never saw it dark (night) for a whole week. I'd wake up at 2 AM, look out the window and still light enough to see trees etc. am so tempted to rent a car and drive up to North Pole and above the Arctic Circle instead of Carol coming down to Fairbanks. 8y
Suzze @Betty Either lots of sun or very little, both seem weird. If only our bodies were like solar panels and could store the sun until winter. 😜😜 8y
MyNamesParadise Alaska has always fascinated me for some reason! 8y
GlitteryOtters I've been to Alaska in the winter, but not any place that cold! We just went to Anchorage, Girdwood, Palmer & Wasilla, plus up to the Matanuska Glacier. I think the coldest it got was somewhere around zero. Not sure if I could stand the Interior for long (although, I would love to be at either the start or finish of the Yukon Quest sled dog race at least once & that would require either Fairbanks or Yukon Territory in February which would be COLD) 8y
Suzze @GlitteryOtters I'm envious that you've been there. My friend goes to the Iditarod start (I think it's the start) every year. 8y
GlitteryOtters @Suzze if your friend went in 2008, I was there, too! First time I met my little Husky in person was at the ceremonial race start that year--she moved down to live with us a year later. My friend was running her first Iditarod that year). 8y
LauraBrook My uncle (who recently passed) lived outside of Fairbanks since the 60s. I grew up with tales of -30 below temps and 10+ feet of snow on the regular. When we visited when I was 5 or 6, I vividly remember playing with a frisbee in the yard and suddenly being told to go to bed bc it was 2 in the morning - and still super light out! It's beautiful but I think I'd have a hard time adjusting. Hope you get to go, and sometime soon! 8y
Cortg @DebinHawaii Nope! I get cold at night in the low 60's. I definitely wouldn't hit you! Putting gas in my car last night in the 20's was brutal for me! 8y
Cortg @Notafraidofwords My friend's son thought it would be cool to go to Univ. Of Alaska Fairbanks. He came home a year later. He said all they do is drink cause it's too cold to do much else 😂 8y
Notafraidofwords @Cortg lol makes sense. 8y
