Pickpick

Sometimes you just need a donkey to remind you to kick up your heels & embrace life. 🫏

Short & sweet without being saccharine.

Best line, “His head was full of a musical buzz, and although his Muse had chosen to inhabit an odd and inappropriate person, Andy Lightfoot was happy because he was writing poems and that was what he was meant to do.”

😊 Back to outdoor reading, at last!

And finally getting to this novella.

mcctrish Lucky!!! I will live vicariously through you 2w
Tamra @mcctrish it‘s been the most roller coaster spring! Way above average & dry, then way below average and wet & windy. I am a Goldilocks and complain unless it‘s just right. 2w
mcctrish After winter being so long and so cold I‘m a goldilocks too! I just want nice weather 2w
Cathythoughts Book sounds good. Everything is green , beautiful ❤️ 2w
Tamra @Cathythoughts 💚 How is your trip going? 1w

“...For what is happiness but growth in peace,
The timeless sense of time when furniture
Has stood a life's span in a single place,
And as the air moves, so the old dreams stir
The shining leaves of present happiness?
No one has heard thought or listened to a mind,
But where people have lived in inwardness
The air is charged with blessing and does bless;
Windows look out on mountains and the walls are kind.“
—from “The Work of Happiness“

This is today's poem from the poetry Advent calendar I'm subscribed to (https://mailchi.mp/anamcara/anam-cara-advent-calendar-2024), which I enjoyed with a mug of apple cinnamon green tea from my tea Advent calendar!

I‘ve read a lot of “my life got derailed and now I‘m going to open a bookstore” novels, but so far this is the only one that looks anything like my experiences working in a bookstore.

#BookHaul from The Book Barn in Niantic, CT. Can you believe I visited exactly one structure in their sprawling, 3-location empire before my hands got too cold and I quit? 😅🥶 My wallet gives thanks to Mother Nature.

JamieArc Have you read the tagged? If not, you‘re in for a treat. I really loved it, and while I rarely reread, this is one I definitely want to. 14mo
monalyisha @JamieArc I haven‘t! And yay! You know I take your endorsements seriously. 😉 While browsing, I sat down in a worn orange chair and read the first few pages to make sure I liked the writing. I was sold. 14mo
JamieArc I read it at the height of the pandemic and it was just lovely. I have an orange chair in my office that I use to take reading breaks 🧡 14mo

slategreyskies I received The Collected Poems of May Sarton as a gift a few years ago. It was a used copy, and when I opened it up to begin reading, we were both surprised to find out that it was signed! I treasure it now, even more so than I would have otherwise. Also, I have so many of her journals as well. Her writing calms me. 14mo
AmyG Other Birds was so lovely. 14mo
monalyisha @slategreyskies That‘s all so wonderful! I know nothing about her, actually. Good to know my instincts can be trusted. 😊 14mo
Tamra The Last Report is one of my all time favorite novels. 💙 14mo
Hooked_on_books You found some good ones! An Immense World is phenomenal. 14mo
