Q is for Quarry | Sue Grafton
post image
Pickpick

Read this years ago for World Book Night and was genuinely surprised that I enjoyed it. I've never been a mystery reader and lumped the whole genre into plot driven slash 'em ups. Much respect to Grafton and her fantastic cast of characters for teaching me that isn't so. Having just finished A, I wanted to go back and review this one as well. I'll probably never get around to the rest of the series but I am happy to have read these two. #mcpl

sisilia I was impressed by U; it‘s different from the rest 6y
everlocalwest @sisilia Maureen Corrigan highlighted that one in her story about Grafton last week. Hmm...maybe I'll do one more... 😸 6y

A Wrinkle in Time | Madeleine L'Engle

My super beat copy of A Wrinkle in Time; one day I will replace it with a lovely hardcover for my Newbery collection but until then this is it. I've reread this a few times since childhood (it was always a favorite), but I probably won't read it again until after the new movie or else the genius of the novel will be too fresh and I'll end up hating it! #mcpl

Eggs I know what you mean 6y
GrilledCheeseSamurai Such a great book! Can't wait for the film! 👍 6y
everlocalwest @Eggs & @GrilledCheeseSamurai I remain cautiously optimistic but I am still feeling the sting of that Golden Compass adaptation. Ugh. This version of Wrinkle does look gorgeous though! 6y
AmandaL I have the same beat up copy! 6y
thevictoriousone It‘s one of my favorites! Erik hasn‘t read it and I told him that verges on being criminal. 6y

The last of my Newbery hardcover collection and another that remains unread (#LitsyAtoZ here I come!). I know that sticker is atrocious but I don't remove it for the nostalgia factor. I worked at Book Warehouse for two years, met my husband there, and was mentored by the owner when I decided to open my own bookshop. Book Warehouse was open for 30 years and an institution in BR; I was so sad when the owner decided to retire in 2005. #mcpl #mctbr

We all know that books are the #greatestgift, but I rarely get books as gifts because I own a bookstore and everyone thinks I don't need any more books (what's wrong with people? 😂) This was a gift from my MIL, I can always count on her to have at least one book under the tree for me! #christmascarolbuddyread @KVanRead #mcpl #mctbr

KVanRead Love it! That is a very good MIL 6y

The year my grandfather passed was hard on my family, and the Christmas that came shortly after was a particularly melancholy one. He was a true patriarch that held us together and he loved the holiday. This ridiculous book really helped me that Christmas. It is hilarious and I loved all of the bizarre characters. A memory of #xmaspast that I wanted to share because someone might be opening this book as we speak and I wanted her to know why. #mcpl

Cinfhen Sorry for your loss, appreciate your thoughtfulness 😇 6y

emilyhaldi Love this, thanks for the explanation- I can‘t wait to read this ❤️❤️❤️ 6y
KVanRead Thanks for sharing this. Loss is so hard especially around the holidays. But it‘s wonderful how books can help us through tough times. 6y
everlocalwest @emilyhaldi it's so outside your typical read I wanted to explain it. 💙 When I picked up the Backman for you I felt compelled to get this one too. 6y
everlocalwest @Cinfhen @Mdargusch @KVanRead thank you all for your kindness. I definitely understand the world through books and always look to them. I love being a part of this entire community of individuals that feel the same. 6y

Mdargusch It‘s so weird, I saw your post this morning and then @emilyhaldi opened your box sitting next to me. I said “I know who sent that to you!” 6y
