I would use this as a read aloud book and read a little each day. This would be a great book group book for older kids
When you reach me by Rebecca stead ( 2009) speculative fiction. A girl named Miranda lives in NYC. She knows how to stay safe h til things start to change. The spare key her mom hid goes missing and and she finds a note. The notes keep coming and she realizes she is the only one that can stop an event from happening.
Looking for a fun YA time travel audiobook? One that channels A Wrinkle in Time (without the religious undertone)? I found this just for you. Seriously. No idea how I found it. But here it is.
#BookSpinBingo @TheAromaofBooks 😘
I needed a middle grade novel for one of my reading challenges, and this has just been hanging out on my kindle forever… absolutely loved it!
Time travel, sixth grade angst, late 70s NYC, and $25,000 Pyramid. Lots of fun and a super quick read.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Another (hot!) day of soccer for this dude. He kicked some SERIOUS bootie with 6 goals, while today I kicked this books butt! It was a super fast paced YA. Not what I expected, but definitely not unwelcome. I really couldn‘t (and didn‘t want to) put it down to adult. It has a little bit of adventure, mystery and some science fiction. On top of it all, you enjoy going with Miranda on her coming of age story.
I really was a reading snob as a kid and I cheated myself out of so many great books! This was SPECTACULAR!! I get a headache thinking about time travel but I think I'm at a 6th grade level. Miranda starts getting strange letters from someone which causes her to rethink everything, even reality itself! #Top100KidLit
A thoroughly enjoyable time travel mystery that‘s perfect for fans of A Wrinkle in Time.
What a fun, quick read this is! Preteen angst, physics, learning how to be a good person (and how to cope when we don't live up to our expectations for ourselves), with a little mystery woven through all of it. From Build Your Library homeschool curriculum, level 6.
I loved this middle grade novel about time travel.
What really is Time? Is it the ticks of the second hand? The duration of a piano concerto? Does it encompass a lifetime into swift moments? Can you fathom being in more than one Now simultaneously? I love this Newbery award winner 👏🏻

I recently read this book for an ESL class I‘m teaching and it was amazing. I was more excited than the kids to finish the assigned pages each week 😂
Read for #Booked2021 “SF written by a woman author”. Im shocked with how much I liked this book! I don‘t typically read science fiction so when I saw this prompt I decided to choose a short YA novel and I wasn‘t disappointed. Perfect start to a new year!
Well that was good! I was looking for a shorter book to finish out the year, I came across a review that said a new Rebecca Stead is always worth reading.I went to Libby & loaded the one that was available.I was enjoying it so much , when I looked up the original cover online I was reminded this was the 1 there was so much fuss about in 2009! Universe didn‘t want to miss it , I guess. My New Year is 5 hrs away, goodbye dumpster fire 2020,☮️& Health
Finally getting around to reading this and it‘s just what I needed today.
Enjoying a quiet day at home, with lots of good food and knitting and reading. Working on a sweater that has been languishing for a few weeks, after I got distracted by new yarn.

I listened to this on audio, so I probably didn't absorb everything. My mind tends to wander when I listen to audio. Nevertheless, it was a good story. “A Wrinkle in Time,“ is referenced throughout, and I hadn't read that novel at the time. It made me look forward to reading it all the more.
#3books set in New York City.
For this prompt, I decided to highlight some of my favorite books about kids in NYC.
I loved Interstellar and this book has some close parallels...

I haven‘t read this but it has a good rating here on Litsy!
This SF, Newbery Award Winner follows Miranda Sinclair and how she learns independence as ominous notes from the future take her on a journey. This book would be great for IR. has wonderful resources. UDL 8.3 which fosters collaboration and community would work great for this book. EL 4 which links topic to students‘ prior knowledge would also work well. #UCFLAE3414SP20
Loved the MC and all the rest. Kept me guessing. Really fun read!
I think #24b4Monday helped me get my reading groove back today.

Absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to recommend it to my students. It also fits the #middlegrademarch challenge (although as a 4th grade teacher, every month brings me middle grade books).
1. I LOVED reading at that age and still do! The Ramona Quimby books were a favorite.
2. Books, stickers, Nintendo, riding my bike, collecting things, My Little Pony, The Simpson‘s
3. Exxon oil spill, Bill Clinton, PeeWee Herman, Michael Jackson, Waco Siege

I am very much like the MC of this story who can‘t really wrap their brain around time travel, but I still enjoyed this story a lot. Sometimes middle grade fiction feels like it‘s all the same but this is unique and interesting and just a good story.
A Newbery winner, When You Reach Me is a serendipitous exploration of life, death, and the beauty of it all. It‘s an unusual, thought-provoking mystery that appeals to several types of readers. Think Wrinkle in Time, but even more mesmerizing...

I finished this book a couple weeks ago. I think this book is a 7 out of 10. I loved the character Miranda, and being able to see her perspective on the situation. I would read something like this again, because I love realistic fiction genres. However, I like reading with some action and edge-of-your seat stories. This one was slower and more realistic.
old favorite
“Well it‘s simple to love someone,” she said. “But it‘s hard to know when you need to say it out loud.”
The mystery within this book is definitely worth the read! A very enjoyable book:)
When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead, 2010. NewBery Award Winning Book. I believe this novel is a great read! This novel is full of mystery and will definitely leave children on the edge of their seats. Young children can relate to the main character Miranda, as she takes on issues regarding friendship and family. These aspects definitely make the book more personable and easier to follow along!
So apparently this was a reread. Goodreads shows I read it in 2014, but I only had a vague recollection. Flew through it in a evening. It was really fun and especially recommend for fans of a wrinkle in time as it features prominently. Miranda, a 12 yo in nyc in the 70s starts getting mysterious notes and must determine their meaning. #bbrc #ya #lollipopfiction
Maybe sometimes we feel afraid, but it's all right
The more you stay the same, the more they seem to change
Don't you think it's strange?🎶
Miranda is in the middle of magical mystery in 1978 in NYC—a captivating Newbery medal winning novel

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead is a SF novel that I believe many students will enjoy during IR. Personally, I found this book difficult to follow so I would encourage my students to draw a concept map to keep their thoughts organized. Other than that I thought this novel was entertaining and a good read! I would also only encourage students who are in 4th grade and above to read this book. #LAE3414Sp19
“When You Reach Me” by Rebecca Stead is a science fiction novel that won the Newberry Award. This book has been frequently compared to “A Wrinkle in Time” and has said to have many of the same positive qualities. This book is about a sixth grader who receives mysterious messages from a stranger who knows everything about her and can predict the future. This website provides a very helpful lesson plan that could be used:
On the cover pages I loved the use of small object appearing larger than life. Also by adding these elements into the city create and imaginative feeling and helps the reader to use their creative thinking skills.
This book shows elements of mystery and science fiction when Miranda and her best friend Sal are split apart. Miranda is determined to find and help Sal but she keeps receiving unimaginable letters that discourage her. This story gives the reader a great magical adventure to follow and discover.
Each message brings her closer to believing that only she can prevent a tragic death.
I would definitely recommend this book and I want to read it myself! I think it‘d be a good book for readers who don‘t like the ghost story fantasy but still like an intense read.
This is the story of the unthinkable- a child solving crimes by herself. I think young girls who are interested in mystery fantasy books would especially like this one. She feels her life is falling apart & must save the lives of those she is close with.
I love how each chapter is titled things about life and that we experience and want in life.
When You Reach Me is a story that is looking into the future and what time reveals. Miranda receives a note that makes her believe her best friend, Sal, is in danger and is predicting death. Time is an important concept in this book but also relationship. Sal gets punched by a boy and blocks Miranda out of his life until something goes wrong, leaving mysteries.
