#Ireland 590 AD. A woman is brutally beaten and healed by a community of sisters founded by Mother Gobnait. During her stay she learns the healing arts, including honey from the Mother‘s bees. When she recovers her memory, she embarks on a mission to seek justice. But life brings her numerous, difficult choices bringing some surprising twists. The plot falls flat sometimes and some issues are resolved a little too easily. ⬇️

Texreader But I found the story compelling and the characters grow and are can be quite likeable. This was a time when Christianity was slowly making a foothold on the island, represented by the community of sisters, so keep in mind the story has a strong religious component. Almost 5 stars. 4mo

Second book in Apothecary Melchior series and it is even better than the first one! I think this is closer to Niklas Natt och Dag style of writing than the first book in the series and I totally understand that it definitely is not for everyone but I just loved it. It is way more brutal and dark than the first book. I love the location of medieval Tallinn! The third book is already waiting on my shelf. Hopefully I get to it soon! 😁

It takes a romantic ideal and gives it life in the story of two lovers that go through a great deal before fate gives them a chance to be together, in a wonderful medieval setting. Her writing style is exciting, it sounds and feels right for the time, and is realistic. Her use of actual historical figures who shaped that world is a delight to read about, they come alive again within the pages of her stories.

Trilogy. Medieval Norway. Classic because it treats timeless themes over the course of one woman s life. One of my top 10 all time favorites. Have read 3x. So far, that is #medievalfiction #scandinaviafiction #norway #nobelprize #trilogy #classic

Nute I am so interested in this book. I have the Penguin Classic Edition. I wonder if it contains the trilogy of books? 4y
Gogobooks Yes, it has them all together. These editions are out of print. 4y

Going for The Champion angle....can‘t believe this was published in 1997, feels like about 5 minutes ago.

Melissa_J I haven‘t been reading much historical fiction set before the 19th century lately, but I need to get back to Elizabeth Chadwick! 6y
TrishB @Melissa_J I haven‘t been reading much historical at all - I prefer medieval but I‘m so fussy on authors... 6y
Melissa_J Me too! There are so few out there who can truly make that period come alive...and stick as close to possible to historical fact. 6y

My favorite indie bookstore is on the Publishers Weekly 2019 Bookstore of the Year shortlist!!! 😍🥰🤩😁💞🎉🎊 I don't live in Wichita, but Watermark has great events that I like to travel to (pic is of Ally Carter there last fall). Congrats to all five stores!
