CatLass007 When I was in the 8th grade our West Virginia History assigned each of us to memorize and recite one of two poems. We just counted off 1-2, 1-2, and all the ones had to learn Joyce Kilmer‘s “Trees” and all the twos had to learn “Woodsman, Spare That Tree,” which was more than twice as long. I don‘t remember the poet. Then she started giving us extra credit if we learned and recited both poems. The verses from “Woodsman, Spare That Tree” (cont)⬇️ 2d

CatLass007 are right at the edge of my memory. I feel like I could recite it if I could just reach out and touch the words. I was just about to say that I can‘t even imagine remembering “Trees” but I just remembered the first line. I‘m not sure I could remember any more than that. It‘s been 50 years! 2d
dabbe @CatLass007 What a lovely story! I believe there is such a power in memorizing poetry or a monologue from something like a Shakespearean play. I still can recite “Immense et Rouge“ by Jacques Prévert because of my French teacher having us recite a poem in French! 🤩 2d

Now I have read all her books. This was one dysfunctional family! Best part of the story was it took place in northern NJ where I spent most of my life. I knew all the towns…kind of like a visit home.
#Bookspin and this one #Doublespin read.
@TheAromaofBooks

MaGoose I'll have to check this book out. I lived in northern New Jersey for the first 24 years of my life. I still live in New Jersey, but further south. 2w
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 2w
AmyG @MaGoose It‘s in Bergen Co. 2w

MemoirsForMe @AmyG @MaGoose If this book is for us “Jersey Girls,” I may have to read it too. Born and raised there, but further south. Exit 9 off the NJ Turnpike 😁 2w
ncsufoxes @AmyG I was born in Bergen County. I lived in Jersey City till I was 4. Then we moved to the western part of the state, near Phillipsburg (on the border of PA, near Lafayette College). I loved Hello, Beautiful so I‘ll need to add this one to my list. 2w
Read4life Ok. This is now on my list. I was born & raised in Passaic Co. Lived there for 26 years. 2w
MaGoose @Read4life I lived in Clifton with my parents until I was 24. When my parents moved to Ocean County, I moved with them. I still live in the house my parents bought 46.5 years ago. 2w
AmyG @MemoirsForMe @ncsufoxes @Read4life Not so much a Jersey book but more of a Betgen County one. @MaGoose Clifton! My sister and BIL‘s business was there. 2w
MaGoose @AmyG Wow. I haven't really gone back there since I moved with my parents to Ocean County 2w

Pickpick

Kim Coleman Foote describes this as a biomythography because she draws from family history and in-depth research to place the reader into these family stories. This is a story about family and relationships, and I felt like I got to know all of the characters as they move through life, struggling to make it day to day. But I think what I will take away most from this novel is that the strength of women is like no other.

I read book one years ago. I never got to the rest of the series despite owning them all in ebook. So… I added them to my #Roll100 list and each month I‘ll add another to my #readyourebooks list.
Summer at the Jersey Shore. National Toasted Marshmallow Day. Paint ball attacks on Danny and his friends that quickly turns into real bullets flying.

Librarybelle I need to get back to this series! It was hilarious! 2mo

Skip this one and read the non-fiction version instead, Michael Capuzzo's "Close to Shore: The Terrifying Shark Attacks of 1916." #2025Book1

#audiostitching (plus bird-, squirrel-, chipmunk- & deer- watching) while listening to this family navigate grief, parenting issues, romantic relationships, work/ life balance, & more. All while dealing with 3 of the 4 siblings winning the powerball.
I ⬇️

bookandbedandtea can see how this family- & all their dramas- could have completely annoyed me on a different day but today I was willing to root for them. It was refreshing to read about a family whose members like each other. (Lottery drama aside 😉) 3mo

I love Ann Naplolitano‘s writing. My first book I read from her was Hello Beautiful. In her stories she includes family tragedy, guilt and large families. Complex rich stories. Her stories are written like a soap opera and I‘m here for it. #prettybookcovers #winterreading

Nobody needs to live alone. You‘re just more comfortable that way. A little discomfort might do you good 🛋️

ManyWordsLater Is that a quote from the book? I love it. 5mo
BittersweetBooks @ManyWordsLater yes, it is! Instead of doing book reviews on this app, I highlight my favorite quote(s) from each book. I love going back and reading them over time. 5mo
