In 1916, there were a series of fatal shark attacks along the Jersey shore. This book fictionalizes those events. I found it a tad melodramatic in some respects (certain characters and scenes) and was disappointed to see the author cling to the outdated “rogue shark” concept in her author‘s note. But it was otherwise a fairly quick, entertaining read. A low pick. The NF Close to Shore is far better.

@cuilin @dabbe
I enjoyed some traditional Irish fairy tales for this month's pick. #kidlit

My favorite book of the week is The Lost Year. I wonder if I can find anything to top it by the end of the month.

1st book in the Andy Carpenter series (#SeriesLive2024). This was a bit of a wild ride. I look forward to reading more in this series. Reminds me a bit of the old McBride movies starring John Larroquette.

TheSpineView Love finding a new series to read. Great job!📖📚📚 4w
Mollyanna @TheSpineView Me too! Unfortunately I‘m better at finding new series than finishing ones I‘ve started 🤣 4w

Yay #BookSpin day!

I went with 1-20 of my #roll100 list again, and got a sampler that I've had for 10ish years (kinda hoping it's a quick bail) and the next Kopp book.

Doing good so far, I read both January #BookSpin picks and one #roll100. And I've already read one Feb #roll100 woohoo

#bookreport A good week, finished 4! Picked Girl Waits with Gun back up as I'm trying to work through the way too many books I have hibernating. And started My Man Jeeves on audio which is a bit disappointing so far, two of the stories at least were also in Carry On Jeeves.

#weeklyforecast finish Jeeves and continue with Wharton's Old New York, hopefully finish both the 60s and 70s. I doubt I'll finish Girl but you never know.

I loved Beanland‘s sophomore book, so I knew I needed to go back and read her debut, and I really liked this as well. It centers on a tragedy and how that affects various members of the family and those in their orbit, while looking at antisemitism leading into WWII. Quite sad, but a good read.

There were a few times I found the time jumps confusing - I wasn't sure where I was or who I was with - but aside from that, this was a great family saga read with excellent narration from Bahni Turpin.

janeycanuck @wanderinglynn @peanutnine It was a fun one to do. Only 500 pieces and lots of great patterns & colours so I did it almost non-stop one afternoon! 3mo
