Proof that I‘m a mood reader! I started this a few months ago and only read a few chapters before returning it to the library. This time around, I finished it in four days! It‘s 400 pages long and has some grim scenes, but it‘s ultimately a satisfying read.

If you‘ve read the first three books, you know Fin is kind of a jerk but has a good heart underneath his bravado, and this plays out here when his son is accused of murder.

A man washes up on the Scottish island of Harris with no memory of who he is. Meanwhile, another man is found murdered on the remote Flannan Isles. Our amnesiac main character is concerned he may be the killer and tries to put his memory together to figure out the mystery. I really enjoyed this. Riveting story and stunning setting.

kspenmoll Love this series- the setting does make me want to visit the islands! 10mo
Hooked_on_books @kspenmoll That‘s exactly what I was thinking last night. I need to get myself to the outer Hebrides! 10mo

This book looks at the tiny, remote culture of St Kilda, an outer Hebridean island group evacuated of its human population in the 1930s. It‘s a very interesting read told in an engaging fashion with little bits of humor here and there. I really enjoyed it and would love to visit there someday.

BethM Wow how interesting 11mo

Happy Christmas Eve Eve! I‘m not going to finish anything else by tomorrow night, so here‘s my wrap up for #Adventathon which as usual did not go entirely as planned. But that‘s okay!

I finished three books from my original list plus two more. The tagged book plus three more from various libraries are riding around in my car waiting for me to get (back) to them.

The Frozen River became available earlier than expected, so I pivoted to it for now.

Susanita I also decided to move from Goodreads to StoryGraph, and I‘ve been laboriously scrubbing my data while watching TV and such. 🤪 11mo

1. Several years ago I developed a personal holiday tradition. On the way home from Christmas Eve service, I take a different route so I can see a historic bridge that‘s decorated with lights. I like to park across the street and sit quietly in my car for a few moments of calm and peace.

2. I‘m looking forward to reading the tagged book once I finish December book club selections.

The body of eighteen-year-old TV personality Caitlin is found abandoned on a remote beach at the head of A Loch Dubh - the Black Loch - on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis. When he learns that his married son Fionnlagh had been having a clandestine affair with the dead girl and is suspected of her murder, he and Marsaili return to try and clear his name.

EadieB I was enjoying reading your new novel, The Black Loch, but found an unnecessary mention of Donald Trump in the book. I feel as though two assassination attempts is reason enough to not mention him in a book. Otherwise, the book is very well written. Although it is read as the 4th book in the trilogy, it is easily read as a standalone. If you like books about a murderer on an island, then you will love reading this book. Highly recommended! I loved it! The best thing to do is to read the old books and then continue with this one. So many characters from back in the days, and so much history. This book was great, but also heartbreaking. Peter May is a magnificent writer, and his characters are so believable and flawed that sometimes it chills my bones. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️#netgalley

EadieB @Tove_Reads I‘m ready to read The black loch but can‘t get the book until September 12th 1y
Tove_Reads @EadieB It is worth the wait! 1y

I thoroughly enjoyed this book as well as all the books in the trilogy. It's hard to say good bye to the island of Lewis and all the wonderful characters that we met on the island. They all seem like real people to me. Excellent plot which kept the pages turning and lots of surprises at the end. Peter May is one talented writer! read 2/8/15

EadieB This book is a reread of The Chessmen by Peter May. It is about the body of Roddy MacKenzie being found during a 'Bog Burst' which drains a lock of its water revealing a light aircraft. I read this book 9-1/2 years ago and only remembered a few things. I'm looking forward to the next book, The Black Loch, by Peter May published in September 2024. reread 8/11/2024 1y

Tove_Reads @EadieB is it published later there? I am already first in line to get it from the library, but no longer needing that. So happy to see May back with a new Lewis book! 1y
