The woman known online as Red Nose Trixie was still screaming as Quinn let the the door swing closed.
There were a lot of names on her list, and Quinn wanted to be out of Maryland before dusk.

Clown In A Cornfield 2 opens a year after the events of the first book with the survivors dealing with loss, life change but also harassment due to a viral conspiracy documentary about the events of the first book. I can't say too much about this one without spoiling book 1, so I will say that I went into this expecting more of the same of book 1 & was pleasantly surprised to find a different take. Def more political, but with the slasher (CONT)

vivastory vibes. Cesare's brief afterword was pretty great, too. I see book 3 is released this summer. Sign me up! (edited) 3w

Not the first line, but this line made me chuckle: ... that pretender, that profiteer, that carpetbagging new-money Branson scum.

Pickpick

This is a short novel at 230 pages. Charity works at Camp Mirror Lake, and runs an immersive horror experience for her guests. That is a great idea, and I would have enjoyed reading more about the actual mechanics behind the experience itself. But the story becomes an actual horror story, as counselors go missing and it is revealed that someone wants to murder everyone working at the camp. This is a young adult book, so a bit juvenile for me.

TieDyeDude I've heard such mixed things about this book. I think I still want to read it, though 🙂 2mo
ReadingOver50 @TieDyeDude it is a soft pick for me. Good but not great. It didn‘t live up to its potential 1mo

Last Final Girl | Stephen Graham Jones

Mehso-so

I am not sure what this adds to Stephen Graham Jones's oeuvre. It's written like someone's describing a slasher film, tons of movie references, a couple of twists, of course, but way too wink-wink, tongue in cheek for me to enjoy for as many hours as it took to listen to it. It reads like a warm-up for The Indian Lake Trilogy.

The breathless pacing of a short story or novella packed with the plot and world-building that would almost work for a full length novel. At 230 pages it's kind of too short and too long at the same time. I think 350 pages would have given a bit more time to get to know the characters, build both red herrings and hints of the actual baddies, as well as expand on the intriguing lore that was introduced. 1/2

Robotswithpersonality 2/2 The epilogue worked for me, I'm always down for a fresh take on the classic final girl trope, but the rest of it left me wanting more, because it seems so clear that the author could deliver: distinct personalities(hurray for black queer rep!), unique urban legend, decent spooky placement. Very rushed. Just didn't quite all come together. 3mo

I give this one ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Fun premise, good twists, but a few head-scratching plot holes I can't look past

My full review is on my blog 🤗

TieDyeDude I was really intrigued when I read about this, but most reviews say something similar. A shame... 3mo
ShyBookOwl @TieDyeDude Good to know other ppl had similar reactions! It's still worth reading if u like horror/slashers, imo 3mo

@Oryx U mentioned Bayron's cover looked very Fear Street, and I haven't been able to shake the feeling that it's nearly exact to one... found it!
