Soft pick. I liked the setting & the characters but when the point of the whole scenario started happening it kinda fell apart for me. Didn‘t hate it. gory slasher vibes, fast paced.

This is a short novel at 230 pages. Charity works at Camp Mirror Lake, and runs an immersive horror experience for her guests. That is a great idea, and I would have enjoyed reading more about the actual mechanics behind the experience itself. But the story becomes an actual horror story, as counselors go missing and it is revealed that someone wants to murder everyone working at the camp. This is a young adult book, so a bit juvenile for me.

The breathless pacing of a short story or novella packed with the plot and world-building that would almost work for a full length novel. At 230 pages it's kind of too short and too long at the same time. I think 350 pages would have given a bit more time to get to know the characters, build both red herrings and hints of the actual baddies, as well as expand on the intriguing lore that was introduced. 1/2

Love language: VIOLENT acts of service.

@Oryx U mentioned Bayron's cover looked very Fear Street, and I haven't been able to shake the feeling that it's nearly exact to one... found it!

I think I‘m in the minority that found this book just ok. I rolled my eyes a lot at the decisions of the main character, but I guess if she didn‘t do all the things there wouldn‘t be a story. I did actually like the turn the book takes halfway through, but even the twist at the end couldn‘t make up for the rest of the book.

It's a little late, but the best spooky October read! Charity is the final girl in a terror simulation horror camp reminiscent of Friday the 13th when the tables are turned and the players become the victims. This was a totally fun and nostalgic read. My second read from Kalynn Bayron that I've absolutely loved.

This book was okay. I was loving the first half, 80s slasher movie vibes were so real. But then the book took a weird twist, and I didn't like it. Definitely should have just stuck to a slasher, and it would have been great. 3/5

It's a great book full of horror, that at first gives of old slasher movie vibes. But more to the middle you find the supernatural involved. The plots are great. I loved the epilogue. It was written in a great style.

I did it! I did it! I finished a book made up of actual text! 😅 While I fly through a couple audiobooks a week, ebooks take me SO MUCH LONGER the last 7 months. I'll give you all one guess why (hint: see above photo LOL). I liked this one, but I found 95% of it was completely predictable. Still fun.

It's so hard to find time to sit with my book these days, so I've decided to make park reading part of our morning routine 😌 Slowly but surely making my way through this one!

This novel was exactly what I wanted and exactly what I needed! If you, like me, LOVE slasher movies, especially summer ones, you will enjoy this. It‘s bloody and twisty and full of the unpredictability and unreal abilities common to this sort of story. I‘ll admit the twists aren‘t too hard to figure out (other than the main one…I don‘t know how anyone could have guessed) but the characters are endearing and I really loved the ending. 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫

A chilling slasher novel with massive classic horror movie vibes but with a supernatural twist. A slow pace to begin with but the shocking revelations make up for it. The ending feels a little rushed and all over the place but the epilogue was unique.

Just finished reading this. Thank you that one BookTok creator who spoke highly of this book. I love a good twist. I also love stories with ending that leave me speechless. Even if I did spend most of the book speculating about that one character. 🤔

This was exactly what I expected it to be..in a good way! Very old school slasher vibes.
Predictable? Sure. But I still enjoyed watching it all play out. There were some twists that popped up at the end, too.
I liked that the MC wasn't a typical dumb victim that made poor decisions and I loved all the "horror movie rules" throughout.
This gave me modern Fear Street vibes mixed with Friday the 13th. ?️?️?️?‍♀️??

I finally had a chance to watch evil dead rises on Saturday night. So, I figured that I would read this book. I‘m 17 pages in and it‘s pretty good. Also, for some reason, it seems like a goodreads is down. 🤔
