+ I enjoyed reading the family scenes
+ Description of Venice was fabulous
+ I liked Commissario Brunetti and his interactions with the other characters (his children, suspects, his boss)

- I vehemently disliked the public prejudice of lgbtq. It implies a mother, identified as lesbian, could lose custody of her children
- (TW) child abuse
- Translation at times was confusing.

I‘m spending a very quiet night reading this book, book 1 of a series set in Venice, recommended by my father-in-law. I really like the author‘s writing style. I‘m also starting this book tonight. It‘s a good reminder that #foodandlit is celebrating #Italy all year because it‘s the year of the Jubilee! I‘ll be trying to read at least one book a month for Italy. @Catsandbooks

an old woman is killed in her apartment & the Romanian housekeeper flees,the police go with the simple answer, Housekeeper did it. The housekeeper dies as she flees & when a neighbor who helped the housekeeper & despised the old lady comes forward to describe the events,Brunetti steps in to Investigate.the old lady was mean,cheap, & played the TV so loud , police were called often. Brunetti has too many suspects & not many answers. #serieslove2025

Here we come #SeriesLove2025 still have many books to go in these 2 series. Also plan to work on Victoria Thompson‘s Gaslamp mystery series. Next book up Murder on Lenox Hill. Think my library has that one as an ebook!

The strength of this series is in the details on Venice. Personal, police wise, and general ways of seeing the world and living there.
