Day 11 #12Booksof2020 @Andrew65
This book is worthy of everyone's time. It is filled with heart wrenching scenes along with human beauty. Very reminiscent of Night. The strength and tenacity of the author's mother is remarkable. Lithuania #ReadingEurope 32/50 @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle
"Here mankind discarded civilization as if it were an article of clothing and left behind every decent feeling: love; loyalty; simply everything. Here it stood naked, and exhibited its wretched soul. Here, faced with the realm of death, all the baseness and cruelty of mankind was on display."
I have to keep reminding myself: It's past understanding. I can stand and do something now when I witness discrimination. #NeverForget
Anyone else annoyed when there are no chapters in a book? It‘s all one text up to 68%. I have to admit I love chapters! #readtheworld #readingtheworld #lithuania
"For my mother to whose love and bravery I owe my survival". #maybookflowers #booksaboutmothers
"Why do you write in such hard times? Why and for whom?... For we won't live to see it anyway."
Much of my extended Polish family perished in the Holocaust. Dad and his parents survived in Warsaw on false papers.
Today is International Holocaust Memorial Day. This opening poem, originally written in Yiddish by Herman Kruk, found after the war is haunting. But we must remember not just today, but always. History can repeat itself.
One of three #books I'm #currentlyreading is Dear Fang, With Love by Rufi Thorpe. I feel this particular passage, from Vera's journal, is very powerful. It resonated with me.
