Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day
Today I Feel Silly & Other Moods That Make My Day | Jamie Lee Curtis
6 posts | 12 read | 1 to read
Today I feel silly. Mom says it's the heat. I put rouge on the cat and gloves on my feet. I ate noodles for breakfast and pancakes at night. I dressed like a star and was quite a sight. Today I am sad, my mood's heavy and gray. There's a frown on my face and it's been there all day. My best friend and I had a really big fight. She said that I tattled and I know that she's right. Silly, cranky, excited, or sad--everyone has moods that can change each day. Jamie Lee Curtis's zany and touching verse, paired with Laura Cornell's whimsical and original illustrations, helps kids explore, identify, and, even have fun with their ever-changing moods. Here's another inspired picture book from the bestselling author-illustrator team of Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born and When I Was Little: A Four-Year-Old's Memoir of Her Youth.

This NY Times Best selling book is FUN & GOOFY. This story teaches our students about emotions & that it‘s okay to feel different each day. It allows students to be aware of their emotions and it describes in detail what may cause sudden changes in our moods. I think this book could be a fun RA when introducing SEL into the classroom. (There‘s also an interactive spin face on the last page for students to use!) 💛🎭

Vanvlieta I would implement UDL principle 3.1 (activate or supply background knowledge) by discussing moods with the class and how certain ones make us feel & what we can do to calm ourselves when in a bad mood. & ESOL strategy 1 (use pre-reading activities to activate former knowledge). #UCFLAE3414SP21 https://www.thepathway2success.com/25-ways-to-integrate-social-emotional-learnin... 4y
TabathaA I fell in love with Jamie Lee Curtis books after reading Big Words for Little People. Can't wait to add this one to my library. The resource you provided is amazing and can be used for so much. I am bookmarking the resource URL. Thanks!! 4y
Vanvlieta @TabathaA her books are AMAZING. I‘m glad you like the resource! I like that it clearly separates the various strategies, then provides further explanation/ detail, rather than all of the strategies hidden within a lengthy article. 🙌🏼😊 4y
acassatta I have to read this book! Added it to my list now. I love that this touches on emotions. I plan to implement these ideas into my teaching and think this would be an amazing read aloud for my future students! Awesome source as well! :) 4y
DrSpalding Your SEL resource is a good one! Clearly your peers enjoyed this post. I love the wheel of emotions in my copy of this text. You have made excellent book selections. 4y

This colorful, fun RF picture book from the #1 New York bestselling team of Jamie Lee Curtis and Laura Cornell would be great to use in a SR. This book follows a unique little girl as she explores her moods and how they change from day to day. It is a great book to help our students understand their moods and feelings. Below, I shared a great resource that I found online, ideal to support a SR of this book.

RossoS It is a teacher‘s guide created by the publisher HarperCollins. This guide includes four fun classroom activities that your students will definitely enjoy, as well as a before reading section that you could use as part of your SR to introduce the book to students. http://files.harpercollins.com/PDF/TeachingGuides/0061127590.pdf The UDL guideline 7.2- optimize relevance, value and authenticity could be met by completing a SR of this book 6y
RossoS as this book could easily be personalized and contextualized to students‘ lives. In addition, the ESOL strategy 16- integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing activities could also be met. As an illustration, all of the activities shared in the guide include the use of these four skills. For example, in the “Class Books of Feelings” students will work in groups to create a book on their assigned mood, in this activity, students will need 6y
RossoS to listen, speak, read and write. #UCFLAE3414SuB18 6y
DrSpalding Your posts continue to be well written and thorough yet concise. Excellent work. Excellent resources… Keep it up! 6y

So my personal challenges will seem silly and crazy to many, and they probably are. But my end goal is to be able to fill out the following graphic each month. This will also allow me to read most of my TBR picture book pile down. Will I be successful in everything, probably not, but I'm going to try.

valeriegeary These look like excellent goals. 👍 7y

Today I Feel Silly is a RF book writ. by Jamie Lee Curtis, Ill. by Laura Cornell, It is perfect to use in a S setting. This is a story of a girl who experiences many different moods in a single day, and recognizes that this is normal- it‘s a great read for students to identify with. UDL:3.1(activate BK)- so students can connect with character. ESOL: 17-Provide contextual support-use expression while reading to demonstrate moods. #UCFLAE3414F17

Karlee.Diamond https://www.thechaosandtheclutter.com/archives/activities-for-today-i-feel-silly... this resource includes activities such as “mood sticks” which encourages students to recognize their moods and identify them. 7y
DrSpalding Neat resource. I like the idea of mood sticks. Realizing that you are teaching little human beings, there are a variety of emotions that you as a teacher will have to deal with. This is a great book to share with students to let them know that these emotions are normal and that handling them in an appropriate way is something that they will learn over time. 7y

This fiction book by Jamie Lee Curtis is great for kids to understand that feeling different moods is okay! Here is a fun read aloud of this book: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Vsce9XeNyug #UCFLAE3414sp17

CaitlinPVeal I love this! I would use this in a class that has a child with an emotional disorder that could help the other students understand different types of feelings. 8y
Alisoncavicchi One of my SL teachers started class with this and the kids ate it up! They love the rich images. This read aloud requires a lot of passion and emotion from the teacher to make it engaging :) 8y
DrSpalding Wonderful peer comments. Jamie Lee Curtis does an excellent job with her books as you shared in your author study Alana. What kind of fiction? 8y
Maya.A This sounds like a great book to read to students who may be having a hard day in class. Sounds like a great book! 8y
