The book the Grouchy Ladybug by Eric Carle is just another one of his many amazing accomplishments. In this animal fantasy book, the ladybug thinks she is the strongest one yet and challenges other animals to duels. Eventually learning her lesson. This is perfect for first or second graders. https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/grouchy-ladybu... I. Love. Scholastic lesson plans!! #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding We witnessed a wonderful story telling that incorporated teaching children how to tell time. Super choice. 8y
Langlied Great book selection! This would make for a great activity on telling time! 8y
LaurenMcl This is a favorite of mine and I love how students will chime in after seeing cerrain repetitive lines in the story. 8y

I really liked reading When the Snake Bites the Sun by Pamela Lofts because it brings a story to life through its illustrations. The illustrations are a huge part of the Traditional literature story and I think this will be a key factor in grabbing students' attention. I thought this was a really cool weebly to use, http://rebeccawilmot.weebly.com/14-strategies-for-teaching-aboriginal-and-torres... #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding Just from the title, it sounds like traditional literature. What do you think? 8y
CharlotteG I think you are right! @DrSpalding 8y
Slacorbiniere I've never heard of this one but I love ur description! Seems like the illustrations would engage students! 8y

The Goodnight Train, by June Sobel is a great bedtime story book! It is animal fantasy and wonderful for young children because they LOVE to make the "choochoo" noises! Which is also terribly cute. I found this scholastic lesson plan and I loved it because scholastic has some of the best resources! https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/books/the-goodnight-train-by-june-sobel/ #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding If we still had naptime this would be the go to read aloud. 8y

I loved this book. I had seen the movie previously but had never read the Dr. Seuss book, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I always enjoy reading a book that had a movie based upon it, especially when it's Dr. Seuss. This fantasy book is amazing! http://themes.atozteacherstuff.com/2190/how-the-grinch-stole-christmas-lesson-pl... #ucflae3414sp17

HayleeM Love this book! I remember seeing this movie in theatres when I was really little and i was terrified of the Grinch! Great resources, very festive and fun for christmas time. 8y
DrSpalding In December, for many children this is a common story to hear and view. 8y

I loved this book because growing up, I read the original Goodnight Moon. Margaret Wise Brown created this book Goodnight Moon 123 Board Book and I found it brilliant. This NF book encompasses the ideals of the original book and adds an educational twist to it that I loved! https://www.teachingbooks.net/tb.cgi?tid=45680 #ucflae3417sp17

DrSpalding Neat classroom resource and classic book. A good read aloud but an even better story telling. 8y

Actual size, by Steve Jenkins, is an NF book that is a wonderful for teaching children about math! I have seen it in action with my friend Amanda and her daughter and it is a very wonderful resource. http://www.brighthubeducation.com/lesson-plans-grades-1-2/128829-2nd-grade-measu... I really liked this lesson plan!! #ucflae3414sp17

AmberC I was surprised how many children are interested in this book, and how easy it is to use with math or science! 8y
DrSpalding Math and science and reading. What could be better? Well, social studies of course too! 8y

I loved this book!! It was the cutest and I loved how the cows typed on the typewriter. I think the book Click Clack Moo cows that type would be good for a younger generation of students. It is animal fantasy and I think younger students would find it wildly entertaining! http://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewResourceLesson/Preview/58153 I found this 1st grade lesson plan on cpalms and love it. #ucflae3414sp17

AnastasiaH Yes!! This book is so silly, and it's perfect for young students. There are some tricky words, especially for emerging readers, so I would be sure to pre-teach some of the vocabulary. 8y
DrSpalding High level vocabulary is important for young children to hear. We want them to use these words in their own spoken language and of course in their writing. 8y

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle, was my favorite book when I was growing up. It is a wonderful animal fantasy book about a caterpillar that eats everything he sees and turns into a beautiful butterfly. I feel like this would be good for the age group kindergarten through 3rd grade because of the illustrations! https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/very-hungry-ca... #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding I agree with the age/grade level. However everyone should know this title. It is a true classic. 8y
SimaraGauntlett This would be a great book to use for story telling as well! 8y
AmberC This book would be fun for an interactive storytelling! 8y

This book is a wonderful fantasy book written by Dr. Seuss. This is one of my personal favorites because I received it as a gift at my high school graduation. It can serve as a reminder, for any age group, that the students are destined for wonderful things and will go far in life! http://www.teachpeace.com/drseussoftheplacesyoullgo.htm I liked this choice for a lesson plan because it allows the students to get creative and crafty! #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding Again, a wonderful book to read at the end of any school year! 8y
Mariachen I also read this book and love it! It's a classic that sends a powerful message to people of all ages! 8y

Two Bobbies is a story of the trials and tribulations of a dog and a cat left in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. It seems as if the two are simply friends, however, as the end of the book will show, they need each other for more than meets the eye. This is animal nonfiction. It is written by Kirby Larson and Mary Netherly! https://www.learningtogive.org/ resources/two-bobbies-literature-guide #ucflae3414sp17

DrSpalding https://www.learningtogive.org/resources/two-bobbies-literature-guide What a super resource for the book and civic engagement! 8y
AmberC What a great resource to teach young children positive values and ways to interact! 8y
KaylaC This books seems so sad, that is why I was hesitant to choose it for my teachlive read aloud. But so many people have said that it is such a good book and it would teach me and a lot of my future students about what happened in the past. 8y
Maya.A This is a great book to introduce a lesson on natural disasters and the importance of sticking together through hard times. This book looks like a great but sad read. 8y
DrSpalding Great book and wonderful resource. As your peers have mentioned it can be incorporated into science and social studies lessons. 8y

The Kissing Hand | Audrey Penn
post image
Pickpick

The book, The Kissing Hand, by Audrey Penn and illustrated by Ruth Harper and Nancy Leak is a traditional literature book that can be used in the classroom for lower elementary students. It could be best used for children who are homesick. #UCFLAE3414SP17 http://themes.atozteacherstuff.com/83/the-kissing-hand-first-day-activities/

AmandaN Very good job. I would love to read this book to my daughter and my future class. Homesickness can be a big problem in the classroom and can cause students to not pay attention very well. So this would be a good beginning of the year read aloud. Thank you for sharing. 8y
DrSpalding True traditional literature is passed down by word of mouth. The Fantasy genre stems from traditional literature and has similar components. This is considered animal fantasy. 8y

The book Creepy Carrots by: Aaron Reynolds is a great traditional literature book that is funny and slightly scary at the same time. It would be good for upper elementary grade levels and it has excellent vocabulary and illustrations. #UCFLAE3414sp17 http://mrswillskindergarten.com/creepy-carrots-lesson-plans/

AmandaN I am hoping to teach 5th grade someday. This book looks like something I would love to have in my classroom library and the illustrations look really cool. We read the article about this book and the illustrations and I would love to read it soon. Thanks for sharing. 8y
EthanH I think book would also be great as an art lesson focusing on illustrators style and influence. I forget the kind, but there's a type of paint style involving shades of black n white with one color (edited) 8y
DrSpalding I like that idea @EthanH students could engage in an art activity and create images much like Peter Brown. 8y
