jb72 @BakingAndBooks I only read it sporadically over the course of six months. It is dense. But I was happy when I finally finished it. I listened to it as a series of podcasts. 5y

The Map of Salt and Stars: A Novel | Jennifer Zeynab Joukhadar

This was exquisite. A beautiful and complex novel that really brings to life the struggles of Syrian refugees. The story was action-packed and I could not put this down. I believe this a debut novel and I am excited to see what she writes next.

Valink My book club picked this for this month! I had never heard of the book before it was picked. I‘m doing it as an audio book and the narrator is wonderful, it just took me a bit to adjust to the two different story lines since it‘s the same narrator for both. 6y

The Cabin at the End of the World: A Novel | Paul Tremblay

I was in the fence about this one but I am making it a “pick” because I thought the ending was really well-done. I could not stop listening to it (had the audiobook). Just as a warning, it is a little gory but if you can get past that it is a great psychological thriller.

I am very interested in UX design and this book was a great intro on how to make websites user friendly. @Litsy is one of the apps I admire most. I think it is very well-designed and thought out. And not to mention, tons of fun to use!

Signs Preceding the End of the World | Yuri Herrera

This was a lyrical, short novella that was beautifully written and translated. It is especially relevant given the challenges that immigrants face when they arrive in the US. The translator's note in the back discusses the obstacles she faced trying to translated a dialect of Spanish that is spoken on the US/Mexican border. I found that part incredibly interesting.

RaimeyGallant Oh yes. It's a memoir. I'm not judging it on its literary merits, though, because I can't remember. It's the story of three generations of women in a family, and how everything changed for them pre, during and after Mao. 6y
