I can no other answer make, but, thanks, and thanks.
If this narrator says “Maybe. Probably.” one more time, I may scream. This, along with the list of three “curses” Hawthorn gives to anyone who wrongs her, takes me right out of the story (if I was invested in the first place).
Bunches of #newbooks made their way into my #library today. For my 10th graders who just finished Lord of the Flies, I can't wait to recommend Beauty Queens by Libby Bray. #yalit #librarian
This one just felt silly to me. I was on my library's waitlist for this for a while, so I was super excited to dive in. While I didn't exactly know what was happening in the first few pages, it definitely sucked me in, but after about the fourth chapter...it was a slog to the end. Maybe it's because I'm reading in between chasing a 2 year old and feeding a six month old, but the plot felt overly episodic, and I didn't buy into the characters.
Drop everything and read this one! The ever-amazing Neal Shusterman blends #adventure, #dystopia, and #scifi into a thought-provoking story that defies easy description. If you've ever wondered what would happen if humans achieved immortality, Scythe's answer may surprise you.

Though I didn't enjoy this short read quite as much as the Peculiar Children trilogy, I am always pleased by Ransom Riggs' writing style. A couple of the Tales were truly haunting (like the allegory of the cannibals), while others fell a bit flat for me. On the whole, I'm glad I read it.
Book talking these bad boys tomorrow! 😬
