Finger Rhymes by Marc Brown is a really cute P book that would work great for choral reading. It is a whole book that has different mini poems and rhymes in it , that have actions to go along with it. An ESOL Strategy would be 14 which is to simplify your speech by making it slower and more redundant. This is important and it will be easy since the poems are short. A UDL would be 1.3 Which is to offer alternatives for visual information.

Zathura by Chris Van Allsburg is a SF story that will keep your students making predictions! They can write down their predictions and share then with a partner. This book is good for SR. It is also the sequel to Jumanji. An ESOL Strategy would be 7 which is to show students how to use graphic organizers like semantic mapping and imaging. They will be using imaging alot in this book! A UDL would be 3.3

Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats is a RF book that won the Caldecott Medal. This would be a really fun AS! The students could have a station where they buddy up to do research on Ezra Jack Keats. This book is one of my all time favorites because Peter does so many fun things in the snow. I have never seen snow before! Peter wakes up to all this snow and he has a fun day making snow angels and making snowballs. An ESOL Strategy is 31.

Olivia by Ian Falconer is a F picture book that won a Caldecott Honor Award. This book would be good as a read aloud. This book is about Olivia and her journey at an art museum where she gets inspired by all the paintings and trys to re create on at home. An ESOL Strategy is 16.Which is to integrate speaking, listening, reading and writing activities. The students can write or draw to reflect on the book. A UDL would be 1.3

Click, Clack, Moo Cows that type is a F picture book by Doreen Cronin and Betsy Lewin. This book won the Caldecott Honor award. This would be a fun PR. This book is about farm animals who go on strike and use a type writer to write notes to Farmer Brown! And ESOL Strategy is 2. Which is to promote cooperation in small groups. The students can have partner reading this book or reading it in a small group! A UDL would be 8.3

Hedgie Blasts Off! by Jan Brett is a F story that would be great for a RA. This story is about Hedgie becoming an astronaut and his journey into space. It shows his discoveries in space and what planet he finds. One ESOL strategy is 14. Which is to simplify your speech by making it slower and redundant. This story is a bit lengthy so 14 will be a must. A UDL would be 2.4 Which is to promote an understanding across languages.

Just a Mess by Mercer Mayer is a F story about a boy looking through his messy room for his baseball mitt. He ends up finding other things he was missing and "cleans" his room by stuffing every thing under his bed This would be a quick and easy RA on a Friday before the weekend. An ESOL Strategy is 4. Which is to link the lesson to students prior knowledge. You can ask the students if they ever lost something before.

When Sophia Gets Angry-Really,Really,Really Angry.. By Molly Bang is such a good RF story that is great for a RA. It won the Caldecott Honnor and Zolotow Award. This book shows what Sophie does when she gets mad and how she calms down so she can go back to her happy stage. I love this book because it shows what kids can do when they get mad and many kids don't know what to do when they feel so angry. An ESOL Strategy is 22.

Martin's Big Words by Doreen Rappaport and Bryan Collier is a Caldecott Honor winner. This is a B about Martin Luther and his timeline of what he accomplished and why he is such an inspiration. An ESOL Strategy is 28. Which is to provide biographies of men and women from all different cultures. This book does just that! A UDL would be 7.3 Which is to minimize threats and distractions.

Whoever You Are by Mem Fox is a MF picture book that would be really fun to read as PR. This book gives great insight into diversity and tells it in a fun way that is so natural throughout the book. An ESOL Strategy would be 2. Which is promote cooperation in small groups. The students can pair up to read the book together and ask questions or make predictions.

Miss Nelson is missing is a MF book by Harry Allard and James Marshall. I love this book and I read it to my nieces all the time! It is about a class who is getting into a lot of trouble. Miss Nelson decides to come to school the next day as Miss. Viola Swamp. The kids completely make a 360 change in their behavior and realize they took Miss.Nelson for granted. This is a great RA book or even a fun PR if they are able to read at this level.

Middle School The Worst Years of My Life , written by James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts, and illustrated by Laura Park, is a super fun RF book and also a New York Times Best Seller. This novel was a fun and easy read that talks about different struggles of a middle schooler, similar to Diary of a Wimpy Kid. I personally think Diary of a Wimpy Kid is better overall, but this book is still a great read, especially for those entering middle school.

Where the Wild Things are by Maurice Sendak is a Caldecott winning MF book. This book is great for S. The kids are always so engaged when I read this book at the Pre-School. Max is a wild child and gets sent to his room with no dinner. While he is in his room, he goes on this adventure to where the wild things are. When he gets back, his dinner is ready for him! What happened and where did he go? Was he dreaming?

Because of Anya by, Margaret Peterson Haddix, is a RF novel that would be ideal for an IR. In the book, Anya has an illness that makea her hair fall out. As a young girl going through school, it is hard enough to fit in. Her wig even falls off in the middle of class. Will she makes friends? Will she stand up to the class and her peers? Will she learn to love herself? This a great book for kids to read so they can learn empathy and kindness.

Mirette on the High Wire, written and illustrated by, Emily Arnold McaCully, is a super fun HF Caldecott winning book. This book would be excellent for a RA. The kids will love to be read aloud this exciting book about Mirrette and how she meets a famous High Wire walker named Bellini! I love this book because it shows to never give up and to go for what you love!

The One and Only Ivan is a MF book written by Katherine Applegate. It is a #1 New York Times Bestseller. Ivan is a Silverback Gorilla that is kept captive for viewing pleaure at a local mall in town. He lives in a very small space with little to no entertainment. He has a few other animal friends that keep him company and he develops great relationships with them. Ivan has faint memory of when he was born in the wild.

I'll Wait, Mr.Panda, is a F book that is written by Steve Antony. Mr.Panda has something very special that he is baking for his friends. Everyone keeps asking if he will be done yet. They all get tired of waiting and just leave. At the end, only one friend is left waiting patiently. This penguin gets to have the special treat all to himself! This book is a great way to teach patience to kids and show them that sometimes it is worth the wait!

Town Mouse, Country Mouse written by Jan Brett is a super cute MF book. It is about a couple of mice who trade lives. One goes to the Town and the other in the Country. They think the grass is greener on the other side, but as they go through many obstacles adapting to their new home life, they soon realize they liked their old home better and the grass wasn't so greener. One activity I found is that the students can role play the story.

"The Popcorn Book" by Tomie de Paola is a super cute and fun way to learn the history about popcorn. Is a NF book that explains the history about popcorn, how process of growing corn works and how to make the popcorn so you can eat it. In the back of the book it actually has two different ways you can make popcorn step by step. A great ESOL strategy is 31. Which is writing instructions and problems using shorter or less complex sentences.

"Wonder" is a RF novel written by R.J Palacio. It has won the award of "#1 New York Times Bestseller." This book is about a boy named August who is entering public school for the first time. August has a condition called Mandibulofacial Dysostosis which makes him look a bit different from other students. Throughout the book we get to see Augusts point of view as he goes through school and all the dramma that comes with it.
