Lilac Girls: A Novel | Martha Hall Kelly
Pickpick

The best historical fiction I have read!

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I agree!! Have you read The Nightingale? So good too!! 8y
Lets_Talk_Books I will. Thanks for the recommendation. 8y
Bookdragon69 I read The Nightingale awhile back and loved it!! I was expecting the same with Lilac girls because of the reviews but I didn't fall in love with it. It was really good but it didn't make me cry(which I hardly ever do with a book) and feel devastated like the Nightingale. 8y

The Female of the Species | Mindy McGinnis

I am absessed with Mindy Mcginnis. I want to read every book she has ever written and all the books she loves and recommends! The Female of the Species is a cold splash in our faces of all the double standards we will never be able to eliminate. Present every day in our kids, schools, society, work... I love Alex, Claire (Peekay), Jack, Branley, Park, not, Adam so much. Read the book. It voices so many who are quiet. 10/10

mom2bugnbee She was at the SEYA Bookfest in my town this past weekend & she spoke to the high schoolers at my daughters' school on Thursday. My 14yo came home saying "Mindy McGinnis is my new favorite person in the world", a sentiment echoed by many of her friends. She was delightful when I met her briefly in the autograph line. 8y

A List of Cages | Robin Roe

This book is dark. It was a tough read. It is beautifully written. It deals with real issues. Adhd, dyslexia, physical abuse, mental abuse. Why should you read it? Because it is also about, innocense, friend, faith, hope, love, and lastly, it IS as real as you can get, no sugar coating.

My latest recommendation to all historical fiction WWII readers out there...Thanks Mike Mason HarperCollins for the ARC. 2 strong female volunteer nurses find themselves in the core of the war. It's raw, honest and guts good!!!

I liked it. Good mystery, with humor, drugs and reference to rape. It's Holmes meets Watson 3 generations later. Ages +14.

Just finished Rabbit Cake by Annie Hartnett. Elvis is a very smart 10 year old girl. She is trying to come to terms with her mothers suicide or death by sleepwalk drowning...need I say more. Elvis loves her dad, sister and makes friends with everyone. She loves animals and never gives up. What a great character! Next "Short for Chameleon" by Vicki Grant, Noelle Bailey tells me its good...
