The second instalment

3.5 stars. Much darker than the Red Queen, especially towards the end. Mare's character has certainly evolved into a darker one than I predicted or expected, especially for YA. I was looking forward to more between Cal and Mare but felt their relationship struggled to grow. Looking forward to the next instalment to see where Aveyard takes us.

The love triangle was meh and the storyline was predictable in parts and then bizarre in others, BUT in saying that, there is something I enjoy about the whole time travel thing.

4 stars. A compulsive read. Ani is a complex character and her story is shocking. By the time you hit page 200 your head will spin. I certainly didn't predict where her story was headed and found I was glued to the pages as it all came out. Whoa!

My holiday reading is almost complete!

A great slow burn. Very enjoyable.

A tale about finding oneself, your loved ones, and a place to call home. While it took a while for me to fall under its spell, its sweetness got me in the end.

An epic read which I adored!

Intense. Harrowing. Confronting. I had no idea what to expect going into this book, and while there isn't much to like in the subject matter or even in the characters, it was still a very good read. The lives that these people lived behind closed doors surprised and saddened me.

Very sweet but not in the same league as The One and Only Ivan. 3 stars.

Fast paced, gory and gripping. The anticipation just builds and builds until it comes hurtling towards its gripping climax. "The Hunger Games with vampires" totally delivered. 4 stars.

It has elements of To Kill A Mockingbird, Bridge to Terabithia and The Great Gilly Hopkins.

The book jacket tells me I will not want to put this down. But I did and often. The writing is great, but the story is boring, I'm more than 150 pages in and the protagonist has been unconscious for most of it. I keep waiting for it to kick into gear and just when I thought we were getting somewhere, we're not. I held high hopes for Carey's new novel after raving about The Girl With All The Gifts, but I'm sorry, I can't go on.

While this isn't a thriller in terms of 'who dunnit'? It's more a case of how & why while watching the police & press get to the bottom of it. Very enjoyable.

I loved getting to know the Plumb family with all their eccentricities and watch them discover what truly matters as they are busy making other plans. This book has been written very beautifully, I enjoyed it immensely.

Three stars for nostalgia. Poor Bridget is still hilariously hopeless but truth be told it's time for her to grow up. As a reader, I have changed and think it was time for her character to evolve.

One of those sequels that is living on the coat tails of its predecessors.
