Bailedbailed

I didn‘t bail willingly, I lost the actual book somewhere in my room!

I really enjoyed this book despite it being nonfiction. I found that many of the things Rubin said were things I agreed with. Creativity is inside of everyone and if you think differently I recommend this book! 😄

Mehso-so

I did The Artist's Way 30 years ago (!) & have revisited a couple of times since. This book is a coda to that, not an alternative. Unlike TAW, I didn't follow the chapters as a weekly course: I don't think there was sufficient material to merit doing so.

Her dismissive attitude towards mental illness rubbed me up the wrong way. Creativity helps but is NOT a standalone cure! (Let's not get into how creative pursuits can lead to deep dark places.)

This is the picture book selection for my library‘s Community Read. It is adorable and I want a physical copy for my own shelves. I love the watercolor artwork and how the illustrations are all done inside watercolor dots. It‘s a great story about harnessing creativity. The whole thing just makes me happy.

MaleficentBookDragon This is a fantastic book. A wonderful photographer, Nancy Rotenberg used to use it in her creative workshops. She was an amazing person and showed us that this book is inspiring for adults too. 2mo
mhillis Love this book! I used it as a basis for discussion with adult English language learners. 2mo

Susanita It stinks that federal employees are being scapegoated, but you‘re right: every day is another day. 2mo

I don‘t know exactly why I‘m reading this. It‘s heavily religious (and anti-materialist). I‘m not religious in this kind of way at all. But it appeared. A selection of quotes for each day. So I‘ve been page through, trying to catch up to today.

I don‘t read self help books very often. I guess I find memoirs and novels more meaningful for life advice?

The tagged book is one I read a couple years ago as part of a summer book club. It was interesting enough but didn‘t really stick with me. In fact, upon consulting my reading journal, I see that some of his advice actually annoyed me. Example: Never ever quit. IMHO sometimes quitting is exactly what you need to do.

#sundayfunday

Kerrbearlib I agree. Sometimes quitting is what we need to do. I‘d love to find a good self-help book that helps people decide when to quit vs when to stick with something. 2mo
Karkar This helped me a lot. I was stressing way to much and it helped me to not give a f*ck all the time about things that did not even matter 2mo
BookmarkTavern Totally agree on quitting! It‘s not a weakness to admit when something is no longer working for you and walking away. Thanks for sharing! 2mo

Navigate Your Stars | Jesmyn Ward

A beautiful little book, in which Ward talks about her hard road to fulfilling her dream of being a writer. This is for the people to whom things don't always come easily, who have to keep their vision in mind and take step after patient step to reach it.
