A man is condemned to relive the same day over and over again in a succession of different bodies - if he hasn‘t managed to solve the murder of Evelyn Hardcastle by the end of his eighth host his memories are wiped and he must start the process again. I‘d heard really good things about this, and I thought I‘d like it a lot. Actually, I found it disappointing. I did want to find out what was going on, and that kept me reading, but not a great read.

This one was a little strange. An allegory of a slice of British history told through the story of various settlers in tents on a very large field ... I‘m not 100% sure what it was all about, but I did enjoy it.

The best book I‘ve read all year. Now that I‘ve finished it (on audio) I‘m very tempted to get a paper copy and read it all again. Ireland as you‘ve never seen it before ...

Started to listen to this on audio, and nearly gave up after 10 minutes as the language was so difficult - Irish dialect combined with quite a few phrases that I suspect haven‘t been invented yet. But now I‘ve got my ear in I‘m loving it ...

Back to work today, so this is my new Audible listen for the drive to work.

Didn‘t enjoy The Betrayal as much as The Siege, but still a good read. It didn‘t handle being a sequel as well as it could have done, and rather too much explanation of what had happened in the previous book. I‘d have liked more focus on the story of The Betrayal, rather than constant looking back to the previous book.

I loved this story of Anna‘s attempts to keep her family alive during the siege of Leningrad. It‘s a beautifully written but sometimes harrowing account of the ravages of starvation, and the bitter cold of the Russian winter ...

‘Library books, have not, however, stuck in my mind. I think I - possibly unwittingly, nudged by Dad - must have used them as ‘filler‘. The ones he bought me, the ones I was able to keep and read and reread ( and reread and reread and reread and ...) were the ones I loved.‘

I've just discovered that the BBC adaptation of China Mieville's The City and the City is on this week. This is one of my favourite books of all time so I hope they have done a good job.

Helen Dunmore‘s The Betrayal is my next RL book club choice, so being a completist I have to read The Siege first.
