The Giver | Lois Lowry
post image

This SF, Newbery Award winning books is a genre classic. Author Lois Lowry created a world so contrasting to our world today, but one that could one day be a possibility. This thought provoking novel follows Jonas, our protagonist who has just learned EVERYTHING. He is to be the keeper of knowledge, something that his perfect society is void of. Is the censuring of everything what is best for society, or is it time to wake them up?

Sdemps The Giver is book that should be included in a classroom library, and IR the greatest teaching strategy for this novel. This TL book is a retelling by Teresa Mlawer of the famous folktale The Tortoise and the Hare. Like all folktale this a story passed down by storytelling throughout the generations. This MF picture book was first published in 1960 and was birthed from the quirky mind of Dr. Seuss. Sam-I-Am really LOVES green eggs and ham, and so should everyone else! Unbelievably his new friend refuses even give the green eggs a taste. Not on a train, not even in the rain, can Sam-I-Am get his new friend to feel the same way as he does about green eggs and ham. RT is the teaching strategy for this rhythming picture book from Dr. Seuss.
