This book was enthralling and incredibly enlightening- and not only in the sense that you gain more insight into the mind of a sociopath, but also because of all the concepts and ideas the author raises about ethics, morality, nature vs nurture, and neuroscience. It made me want to read further on all those topics.

The most predictable mystery/thriller I've read in ages. It was tolerable, but not even exciting enough to make up for the lack of surprises. Maybe at some point I'll try another one of her books, since I have heard such great things about her. But this one was definitely not for me.

Beautiful, infuriating, thought provoking, and bizarre. My first Coelho book but certainly not my last.

"I never used to suffer from depression on cold, gray, cloudy days like this. I felt as if nature was in harmony with me, that it reflected my soul. On the other hand, when the sun appeared, the children would come out to play in the streets, and everyone was happy that it was such a lovely day, and then I would feel terrible, as if that display of exuberance in which I could not participate was somehow unfair."

I loved this book. I felt like it was a little predictable at times, but it was still heart pounding and a page turner all the same. Not to mention, the characters were all incredibly flawed but lovable in their own right. I will definitely be reading more by her in the future!

I can't believe it took me this long to finally delve into a Vonnegut book, but I'm glad I finally did it. It's amazing how he can write something that is somehow hilarious even when it is bleak and dry. There were quite a few quotes I found memorable, whether because they were profound or profoundly funny. I loved it.

"He felt spooky and luminous" is the kind of vibe I 100% want to bring into the new year/decade. Thanks, Vonnegut.

I wish I had the space to go point by point on all my issues with this book. However, since I don't, then what I will say is that it was a difficult read, and not for the reasons the author was looking for. The characters were all entirely unbelievable and unrealistic. Every single person was a caricature. It's a lot harder to forgive something like that when the book is about such serious subject matter. Had to force myself to finish this one.

I read this one intending it to be a guilty pleasure book, full of cheesy drama dysfunction. And while there was absolutely plenty of drama and dysfunction, it was raw and real and heartbreaking, while somehow also feeling like a fever dream. The writing was beautiful, the thought processes from someone suffering from an eating disorder was realistic, and the "is it a ghost or hallucinatiom" added just the right amount of curiosity for the reader.

I loved this book way more than I expected to. I'm usually more into suspense and horror and drama, but this was such a great mixture of comedy and drama and angst and general feel good feelings that I couldn't not love it.

It was quirky and adorable and embarrassing and heartbreaking all at once. Absolutely worth the read.

some coworkers highly recommended Tremblay's "Cabin at the End of the World." I loved it. I read this one next though, and wow. All my coworkers liked Cabin better, but this is my favorite of the two.
I'm not usually a fan of open endings, but Tremblay pulls it off in a way that's all so purposeful and perfect for the plotline.

It wasn't perfect of course, but I think it was one of the best horror/suspense books I have read in a long time.

ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Agreed! Cabin was fast-paced and exciting, but Head Full of Ghosts was my favorite. (edited) 5y

I enjoyed this one. It had a fun, stressful kind of whimsy and mystery to it, without it being "thriller/mystery" suspense.

It felt a little surreal and strange at times, but I enjoyed that aspect. It didn't go where you expected it to, and that is rare for books like these. It felt sort of like a British dramedy to me, at times.

All I can say is that the writing is so chilling in the most beautiful way. It often sounds like poetry.

I make a point to reread this every few years or so. I first read it when I was in 4th grade, when it had first come out. I loved it and reread it quite a bit, but every few years it seemed to be a little creepier than I had remembered.

I think the magic of this book is that it is for children, who see the magic and whimsy and some fear, but view it mostly as a fun, suspenseful adventure book where good prevails over evil.

Literally just finished the book last night. It was a pretty good combination of drama and supernatural suspense, in my opinion. The twists were pretty predictable, but I thought they were still executed pretty well. It was all in all a book that left me thinking a lot at the end. If you're sort of sensitive or an empath even with fictional characters, this book may be enjoyable but upsetting.

I read this before watching the movie... and for once, I have to say that I liked the movie better. The book felt too much like someone who wanted to put a new spin on "Gone Girl." I know they say there is no such thing as a truly original idea anymore, but something about the book just irked me. I did read it all in one sitting, and it was gripping, but there were way too many things that felt incredibly "off."

I quite enjoyed this book. It was pretty up and down, had me anxious and emotional all at once. A pretty enthralling read, very gripping, even if I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the ending.
