Going to have a bit of a re read of these also over the weekend. Confirming that I am ready for them to go to the charity shop.
I am in the process of #swedishdeathcleaning and aiming to pare down my physical books to only have 5* would read them over and over again books and TBRs.
I just finished reading this book. It is pretty dark. But I really liked it. Then I noticed it was the author of NOS4A2, and I loved the series.
1 bingo spot for #ISpyBingoJuly. It is almost a chunkster, according to Libby, with 584 pages. #ChunksterChallenge2024 and qualifies for #ReadAway2024 @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks @Amiable @DieAReader @Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES
A weird one, but just interesting enough to keep me reading it.
3.5/5
Library book 📖
#LuckyInLove #Hearts This has been on the TBR for a long time! 📚📚📚😁
#wondrouswednesday @eggs
1. Just to my wife. I had done for coworkers before, but wasn't feeling motivated this year
2. Not particularly, but if they exist, it's probably more like the song “From Above“ by Ben Folds :)
3. I don't like the commercial focus of the day, so something small. Tonight, I'll cook dinner and we are going to a stargazing event.
Thanks for the tag, @crazeedi
Had to read fast to finish this spooky page-turner of a team read! A fading rock star & his Goth girlfriend become stronger as they fight a vengeful ghost. As a writer, I may reread the first 50 pages, to appreciate the seamless introduction of the ghostly, hypnotizing stepfather. Vivid description & clever metaphors await the reader on the night road. #Scarathlon #teamread #31in31 #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall #finalstretchathon #OutstandingOctober
Boston beach reading. Really. #Scarathlon #beachread #31by31 #spookoween #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall #Finalstretchathon #OutstandingOctober
An excellent debut novel from Joe Hill. 30 pages in it kicks into high gear, then takes its time fleshing out characters and details while rarely letting off the petal. So well structured! You think you know where it is going, but there are constant twists, usually picking up breadcrumbs dropped chapters ago. Highly recommended! #scarathlon #buddyread #teamwhoyagonnacall
Sufficiently creepy and pretty dark & bleak. I loved that the central character was a (implied) famous musician — all of the references gave the story grounding. Joe Hill did his father proud with this, I‘d say.
Both buddy reads complete - month isn‘t over yet tho! Still gonna try to squeeze in a bit more.
#Scarathon #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall
Going on a Joe Hill deep dive. So far, I've only begun the Locke & Key series, but I'm looking forward to starting, Heart-Shaped Box this weekend.

Just finished chapter 7, about 30 pages in. Things get rolling real quick in this book! #scarathlon #buddyread #teamwhoyagonnacall

I read this years ago and was surprised how much I had forgotten, when in my head before starting it this week I thought I had a good grasp on it.
His sister being a minister writing Amish romance is still the most shocking thing I read this week, even including this book 😂

Hey #TeamWhoYaGonnaCall & all pals taking part in the #Scarathlon! If you have Amazon Prime, they just dropped six new short stories of the creepy kind *today* by some pretty epic authors! Adding to my TBR as we speak…
Most excited for Grady Hendrix - which are you most excited to read?

Classics mixed with newer titles, I revisit Stardust each October ❤️
I was lucky enough to own both #buddyreads for this challenge excited to discuss them!
@FlynnDewey
Happy Upcoming Halloween, team. I'll be here to do my best to lead us through the eerie forests, spooky swamps, and haunted houses for a fun filled #Scarathlon. Let me know in the comments what games and activities you're looking forward to. Don't forget, you can score some early points by posting your TBR this season as well.
Happy haunting!!
Book #44
4/5
Though not necessarily my cup of tea, this book is unique, quick paced, and well-written. I know I shouldn't compare his writing to his father's (Stephen King), but I can't help it - their writing has the same dark, richly detailed, otherworldly quality. Heart-Shaped Box is, at times, like an insane fever dream.
This is Hill‘s first published novel and it shows. The concept is cool, and there are some imaginative touches, but it needs polishing. It starts out solid, delving right into the story and layering the suspense on thick. The first 30 pages or so are legitimately scary and done quite well — which is why I feel the book as a whole sort of fails. If you use all your fodder when you start the fire, what will you have left to keep the flames going?
Read this with my boyfriend, we read it side by side together. We both thought it was pretty meh sadly. I really wanted it to be spooky.
Tackle the TBR 🤓📚

What are you reading? 😊
Got together all of my creepy, horror/horror-related books, both read and to be read for October/Halloween. Halloween is my favourite holiday and I have always been beyond obsessed with horror.
Happy October all😊📚👻🎃!

But, how can you choose just ONE with so many great books that start with the letter H?! 🤷🏻♀️

This are some of the horror books on my October TBR! Can‘t wait to read them all.
Horror, mystery, suspense, paranormal, ghosts, witches!! 🙌
Have you read any of them?

First book of the year down . I enjoyed this one the creeps I found to be very good for the most part and there was a couple of twists I didn't expect . Other parts felt like it dragged on a little to long
3 and a half stars for this one .
Thank you @EH2018 I love everything in my #creepychristmasswap package. The books have been on my TBR for long time and socks are adorable and I am in awe of the headband it is gorgeous and has my favorite villian on it. Everything else is perfect. @teebee
This was a perfect book for the Halloween season. A scary, engaging page turner about a famous and retired rock star who has to battle with vengeful individuals, both living and dead.

Fun fact: this is Stephen King‘s son. 😱 it was recommended by a friend, I can‘t wait to sink my teeth into it.
It‘s “shaping up” to be a good morning around here. 😉😬
#horrorreads #ghosts
So bad lol. That‘s all i have to say
NOS4A2 is still my favorite but I can see why people recommend this one. An aging rockstar buys a dead man‘s suit for his collection of the macabre but it is SO much more than he anticipated. More and more twists and turns show up. Hill is deserving of the King legacy. As usual, the doggos are my fave characters. Now I want to get myself some canine familiars. My black cat, Nox, would most likely be apathetic to my safety...🤣
I promise I tried. But 21 chapters in and I still would look forward to one ending because it meant I was closer to the end. I like the story line but just not enough to get into it.
Second time reading. It was fun, I liked the ghosts. Not a huge fan of the older rock star with a young girlfriend, but it is what it is. Creepy fun.
Thank you so much @kaysworld1 😀 I‘ve been dying to read a Joe Hill book for a while now so I‘m looking forward to jumping into this one. Gotta love a good horror book on dark, cold nights. 😉 #jbuk
Eliza,
Thank you so very much for this awesome care package! Girl, you know I love chapstick! Love the socks!! 😽 and everything!! You are the bomb!! Love you!!
The card says “Vulnerability is not a weakness.” I am laminating all of these special cards for my cork board ❤️

The audiobook narrator is good, but the version kept interrupting each track with this loud music that didn‘t really fit the mood. I‘ve also been reading other books to get more points for #Scarathlon2020 #TeamHarkness and try and knock out more #BookSpinBingo squares.

? Tiny chocolate bars and tiny licorices
? Not sure if it's the scariest I've ever watched but I remember The People Under the Stairs terrified me as a kid and I've never watched it again ?
? "Maybe ghosts always haunted minds, not places" - Heart Shaped Box
If you're reading this, feel free to play!!!

Just finished reading this one and what a thrilling ghost story! Gotta say it was super dark but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Perfect for this time of year 👻 🎃
Ghost stories are certainly the scariest type of story for me. Yet some are still more effective than others. The Conjuring did a fantastic job of bringing the horror so it reminds me of Heart-Shaped Box: one of the few books to genuinely scare me.
#horrorseason #scarathlon
I finally figured out a tentative TBR for #Scarathlon2020! I‘m on hold for both of the #TeamHarkness buddy reads, but I don‘t think A Discovery of Witches will come in on time 😭
I will be posting my bullet journal tracker soon, but for now +26 points for the team. I can‘t wait for October! Bring on the spooky reads 🧛🏻♂️🧟♂️👻☠️
