I just found out that a fan decoded the alien language in Paper Girls. Gah I love nerds! I'm having fun decoding their speech in my reread.

Kippa is hands down the best part of this comic. The way she hugs her foxtail when she's nervous or scared is completely endearing.

Met up with some rad ladies to discuss the comic adaptation of Emma over tea and scones. #riotgrams #outside
#riotgrams #comics Ms. Marvel is my absolute favorite. I wore this shirt to the ATL women's march and I love that Kamala is becoming an even symbol of hope in these disheartening times.
#riotgrams day 9: an author who shares your name.
I've read a lot of post-apocalyptic novels, but this one stands out for telling such a human story of resilience and rebuilding.
I have a library holds problem y'all. This is on top of the two books and 3 trades of comics I haven't even started yet! I can never space them out well. 😯
I 💖 my library! The librarians are A+ book and comic buyers and often put out really creative displays. This monster eating up the returned books is a recent fave. #riotgrams #mylocallibrary
A bit of escapism for today's #TreadmillRead. Ebooks are the easiest to read while walking because you can increase the font size and don't have to worry about cracking the spine.
Today's #libraryhaul. Homegoing is our book club pick this month!
I love that Squirrel Girl not only stops crime, but thinks about how to rehabilitate the offenders. She's a real social justice kind of superhero. ❤
I don't think I would have fully appreciated the intensity of the violence in a prose book. It's even more upsetting on my second read, but so necessary.
This volume of Gotham Academy is a series of vignettes by guest writers and artists. I'm not sure I love it, but this panel cracked me up. Professor Scarlet loves books as much as littens!
I got to attend a panel and signing with the entire March creative team at DragonCon last year. I blubbered all over them at the signing table. John Lewis' life and philosophy of love and nonviolent protest are such an inspiration. See you at the march on Saturday. #MLKreads #goodtrouble
Had a great discussion on the use of "pervert" in Ranma 1/2 yesterday. It was definitely problematic in this gender bending story, but it's also important to acknowledge translation challenges and how our language and culture have changed over the past 20 years. This is why I love book clubs and buddy reads. ❤
It's not a Jane Austen book without a rejected marriage proposal.
Does anyone else play visual novels? They're games where instead of moving around, the action takes place through discussions between characters. My favorites are the Pheonix Wright series, where you're an attorney who also does private investigating to prep for cases. The mysteries are always bananas with a wacky cast of characters.
This didn't quite live up to its promise but I loved the romantic relationships. A beautiful reminder that love always exists between flawed people, and transcends the "rules" society tries to impose about age, gender and ethnicity.
Also check out the "snow" we got in Atlanta lol. ❄
I didn't know much about this going in and gobbled it up in just a couple of hours. After rashly giving away her broken heart, Emma goes on a journey to retrieve the seven pieces. It's more magical realism than grand adventure, with moments both sweet and painful as Emma deals with the fallout from her decisions.
Happy New Year Littens! My #bookishresolutions are to:
📚 Read 60 books
🌎 Read more authors of color (at least 25%)
📰 Read more nonfiction (at least 5)
My favorite books from 2016 were The 5th Season, Lost Stars, and Infomocracy. Favorite comics were Alex + Ada, Giant Days, and Squirrel Girl.
I got to go to Diagon Alley at Universal Studios while I was in Florida! I did a truly terrible job taking photos but this is me in a phone booth dialing the Ministry of Magic. I performed spells with my mom's special wand, drank butterbeer, and rode the Gringotts ride. 😄
I love that I can read this comic I recieved and ignore the car show my family is watching guilt - free. I'm just enjoying my gift so much! 😜
This has been a great road trip audiobook. It's immersive and moves along at a fairly brisk pace, but also has some incisive commentary about the role of media and big data in politics.
This issue of Squirrel Girl is a clever choose your own adventure! It is making my 90s kid heart so happy.
I love giving books! In this pile there are books about space, quilting, spirituality, and the fourth doctor.
I suggested The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making to my boss for her bookish 6th grade daughter, and her daughter sent me back book recs! Adorable. 😊
Squeezing in some reading and a workout on my lunch break.
I'm not sure about the story yet (a 10 year old inexplicably plays guitar in Dinah's band?) but I am loving the art by Annie Wu.
Curled up with my cat and the silly quilt my grandmother made for me. Pippin wants me to stop with the photos so he can sleep. 😼
My belated November wrapup. A whole lot of escapism. 🚀
In this volume Batgirl wrestles a tiger, and then tells a meddling old flame to take a seat in no uncertain terms. I loved every minute of it! Batgirl is a badass without falling into the Strong Female Character (TM) trope.
I was reading this while waiting for the doctor to come see me. He asked what I was reading, I showed him, and he replied "Well, it's never too late for a happy childhood." ??
Very early on I realized this was a lot like the original Muppet Movie (1979), in that it was a fantastic cast of characters on a weird roadtrip with a loose plot. I loved being along for the ride! I also appreciated how alien the aliens were - they author really stretched her imagination to create sentient beings with very different bodies, communication styles and cultures.
Oh hey, it me. Coverspy was at the second day of #BRLive and I stopped for a picture. Check them out at coverspy.tumblr.com
S.E. Hinton came to Atlanta tonight! She was funny, thoughtful and totally approachable. I was delighted that 75% of the questions came from kids and teens, including a group of 4 girls dressed as greasers. The kids are alright y'all.
I've been having trouble visualizing the aliens, so I went in seach of fanart. I love this one of the Wayfarer crew from tumblr user Matchewie.
#TBT to last year when my book club was obsessed with the Shades of London series. It's exactly the right amount of spooky and filled with Maureen Johnson's signature absurdist humor. I can't wait for the next book!
My personalized recs from #bklynbookmatch. I asked for diverse sci-fi and fantasy like N.K. Jemisin's The Fifth Season. 😍 #BRLive
Book swag from #BRLive! I'm especially excited about the Sarah Anderson book.
