This is the best sentence I've read in a book this year.

I know this is a classic .. however I find the writing to be quite dull, Angelou is also discriminatory to overweight people in places and makes dodgy remarks about white men (page 115). I'm really not getting into this book at all.

Excited to start this! Didn't realise how short a book it is though.

Bailedbailed

I don't bail on books very often and I got 60% through this one until I just couldn't be bothered trying to understand what was going on any more. Couldn't grasp who was who, didn't really care. Weak storyline.

This book is terrifying because it doesn't seem impossible. Slowly women are stripped of their rights. Then they become walking wombs and nothing more. Men are in control completely and women have no voice and no say. They aren't allowed to do anything except breed. Already in America rooms filled with men are deciding what women can and can't do with their own bodies with regard to abortions.

Mccall0113 Spot on. Totally agree. Book was scary good. 7y

Never have I been quite so annoyed by a book as I am by in the woods by tana French. Excellent, so excellent and gripping and intriguing and then ..... one of the two main storylines and mysteries is LEFT UNANSWERED!!! You don't freaking find out what happened in the woods!!!!!!!!!!!!????? I wanna knowwwwww.

wanderlustywriter There are a lot of clues as to what happened if you do a closer reading of it. I wrote about my theory on my blog: https://wanderlustywriter.com/2014/07/02/in-the-woods/ 7y

#whiteoleander This book is pure poetry. I could read it 100 times over. If I could marry a novel ... this would be it.

I hadn't, at the last moment, felt like washing off the two diagonal lines of dried blood that marked my cheeks. They seemed touching, and rather spectacular and I thought I would carry them around with me, like the relic of a dead lover, until they wore off of their own accord.

Just as my classmates at school no longer expected me to be at lunch, had come to accept that I would be hiding in the locker room, carving razor cuts onto my legs, playing with my own blood, as if that's what everyone else was doing between 12:15 and 1pm.
